Dredge The Iron Rig: DLC quests (Pursuits) Dredge guide, tips

New quests (Pursuits) await you in the DLC The Iron Rig for Dredge. This page of the guide contains descriptions of the passage of all new quests. Missions discussed include Getting Power, Strange Specimens, Contamination, Defend the Rig, Iron Fleet and Sabotage.

Last update: 30 September 2024

Since the first visit to the oil rig in The Iron Rig , the second expansion for Dredge, you can play new quests (Pursuits) that are assigned by NPCs from the rig. Our guide includes a walkthrough for the missions included in the DLC. It should make it easier for you to reach the end of the expansion and complete all quests in 100%.

Getting Power

  1. Start by completing all the steps outlined on the page titled How do I start the DLC?. You will reach the drilling rig from the northern part of the map - this is the central point of this DLC, where you will start this and subsequent quests of the expansion.
  2. The first mission will be given to you by the foreman and you must deliver 2 ironhaven crates. The easiest way to reach fishing spots marked on the map with a rig icon - we marked them in the attached image. Remember that you must have equipment for dredging, that is for fishing various dead objects out of the water. Change your boat's equipment if necessary.

For more information, we also recommend checking out the FAQ page titled How to obtain Ironhaven Chests?.

  1. You must move the crates you have collected to the left slots in the conversation window with the foreman (image above). As a reward, you will receive a hull repair kit (quick repair without having to return to dock).
  2. Next, visit a research facility on the rig to talk to the scientist. You must deliver 1 Ironhaven Chest to him - as a reward you will receive Soothing Tea (quick panic condition removal).
  1. Talk to the foreman again, this time at the generator. Your task is to deliver the fish.
  2. You can catch any species of fish from any fishing spot on the world map. Ultimately, you need to fill the entire left screen with fish - try to choose them in such a way that no single slots are left empty. As a reward, you will receive aberrated bait and the next quests will begin.

Drilling in the Deep

  1. This quest will start after completing the quest titled Getting Power. This is the overarching DLC quest. You just need to keep yourself busy with the other jobs on the board related to the oil rig. The list of goals will update automatically.

The Iron Rig

  1. You will receive this quest after completing the quest titled Getting Power. You have to construct new buildings on the rig and expand existing buildings.
  2. In both cases, additional Ironhaven Crates are needed - depending on the upgrade, you must deliver 1 or 2 crates and move them to the left slot of the building. As a reward, you will unlock new NPCs, new services, and new crafting items.

Strange Specimens

  1. This is the biggest quest of the described DLC, which will start after completing the Getting Power mission. You will meet the scientist once again and you will receive an infused fishing rod - install it immediately in the ship's hold (fishing rod slots).
  1. The infused equipment from the DLC will be used to catch new species of fish as the current standard rods will not be enough. The first fishing rod is just the beginning and you must gradually craft subsequent rods in the factory (image above).
  2. To create each infused variant you need cash, a regular fishing rod (you can buy them in the shop), Ironhaven Crate and optionally also a Dark Canister. Once you have purchased your infused gear, install it on your ship (move any unneeded gear to storage to save for later).

The quest consists of a total of 5 parts. Within each part, contamination will appear in one of the main regions of the map - you can swim to dark spots on the water and start fishing in them. For this you need infused versions of rods and we have described this topic in more detail on the FAQ page titled You don't have the right equipment.

Each part of the mission requires you to catch 4 different fish species indicated by the scientist (1 specimen of each). You can recognize the DLC fishing spots by the yellow arrow next to the name of its category (Coastal fishery in the example in the picture).

  1. Part one (The Marrows region) - use an infused rod to catch fish ( Shallow and Coastal fisheries). The exception is the sea cucumber, which is a crab. You need to place crab traps in any contaminated area - this is covered in more detail on the page titled How to Catch a Sea Cucumber?.
  2. Part two (Gale Cliffs region) - an infused winch will work perfectly (Shallow, Coastal and Oceanic fisheries). The Trilobite is a crab and as before, crab traps need to be placed in contaminated areas.
  3. Part three (Stellar Basin region) - Purchase and install an infused winch on your boat (Oceanic, Deep and Hadal fisheries). It will be used to catch 3 species of fish, and the last, fourth one can be caught, as before, using crab traps. Additionally, you must complete the entire Defend the Rig quest.
  4. Part four (Twisted Strand region) - You will need 2 different fishing rods. You'll need Infused Coiling Rod (Mangrove fisheries). The second one could be, for example, an infused winch (Shallow fisheries). As always, one of the fish must also be caught in a crab trap.
  5. Part five (Devil's Spine region) - Requires Infused Fireproof Rod (Volcanic fisheries) and Infused Winch (Hadal fisheries). Additionally, you must catch one of the species in a crab trap again.
  1. Once all 5 groups of fish are delivered, you will experience the scientist's transformation into a mutated creature. The monster will jump out the window and dive into the water. This is the end of this long quest.

Contamination

  1. This quest will be unlocked after completing the first part of the Strange Specimens quest. The scientist will contact you requesting the delivery of a dark canister containing liquid from contaminated areas.
  2. You must first upgrade your factory to tier 2. A siphon trawler (pictured above) will become available for purchase, but you will need to provide cash, a basic trawler and an ironhaven crate - meeting these requirements is described in more detail on the page titled How to obtain Dark Canisters?.
  1. You must install the crafted siphon trawler on the vessel. Then go to any location with dark spots in the water.
  2. You must select the siphon trawler from the drop-down menu - this is shown in the attached image. Swim around the contaminated area and your dark canister bar in the lower left corner of the screen will fill up. Once it is filled to 100% you will receive 1 Dark Canister to deliver to the Scientist.

It's worth continuing to use the Siphon Trawler even after completing the quest - the next Dark Canisters will be useful for crafting.

Defend the Rig

  1. This mission will be unlocked after completing the second part of Strange Specimens. The oil rig will be attacked by a huge monster - from the foreman you will learn about the need to take steps to drive away the underwater creature.
  2. The person you need to meet is a Researcher from the Stellar Basin region - a character you already know from the main campaign. As a reminder, she is located in the Old Fortress on the northwestern island of the archipelago - this place is shown in the pictures.
  1. The researcher will give you a free defense system blueprint. When you return to Ironhaven, a new button will appear - Defenses. You must pay to build a tower that will scare the monster away. Requires 1 Ironhaven Chest and 1 Dark Canister.
  2. The constructed tower will automatically start working and the large tentacles will hide in the water again. This will complete the quest.

The Iron Fleet

  1. This quest will start after completing the Defend the Rig mission and the third part of the Strange Specimens quest. A new character will appear on the platform - the Executive. He will force the drill to restart.
  2. You must build a Fleet Services building on the rig - this requires 1 Ironhaven Chest. The new building will enable you to purchase ship upgrades - the final upgrade is the strongest tier five hull.

Sabotage

  1. You will unlock this mission after completing the fourth part of the Strange Specimens quest. The Executive will demand that the drill be restarted, and the Foreman, seeing the threat, wants to stop him - you must assist in sabotaging the drilling rig, and the plan is to disable the safety features.
  2. You need to visit the Researcher from Stellar Basin once again. In your conversation with her you need to bring up the subject of sabotage. You must construct an override on the rig and this is done in the Defenses window. You need 1 Ironhaven Chest and 1 Dark Canister.
  1. After delivering the materials, you will watch a scene with 2 sea monsters - the threat to the oil rig will be averted and you will complete the main storyline of the expansion.
  2. A group of workers are evacuating from the platform, but the main buildings and characters from the platform will remain available - these are the Dock, Factory, My Storage, Generator, Fleet Services, Foundry, Tech Lab and Undermarket. This will enable you to complete all your major research projects, as well as continue crafting useful consumables.
