While exploring Pale Reach, the DLC region in Dredge, you can complete Pursuits, i.e. main and optional quests. Our guide contains a walkthrough for all DLC missions. Using our walkthroughs will bring you closer to getting a 100% completion of the Pale Reach DLC.
Icebreaker
- This is a DLC quest that you can start right after arriving in Pale Reach. Moor at the Bleak Pontoon in the northern part of the archipelago. Select Icy Worksite to talk to the Travelling Merchant about the Icebreaker.
- You will learn that you need 3 parts to build the Icebreaker and they are scattered across various locations in Pale Reach.
However, before you go to find the parts, you need to complete another quest, The Narwhal. Completing it will unlock access to the central area of the archipelago by destroying the ice barrier.
- You can pick up the Icebreaker parts in any order. These are glowing yellow fishing grounds and every piece must be fished out.
- The first part, Plow Half, can be found in Shapes in the Deep next to Central Camp in the middle of the map. You can obtain this part right after unlocking access to the main part of the DLC region.
- The second Plow Half can be fished in Shapes in the Deep next to Western Bearing in the western part of the map. You can get there after Narwhal destroys the western ice barrier when you're delivering fish. We described this in more detail in the Under the Ice chapter.
- Icebreaker Bracing can be fished in Shapes in the Deep next to Eastern Terminus in the eastern part of the map. You can get there after Narwhal destroys the eastern ice barrier when you're delivering fish.
- Having obtained all parts, you need to return to Bleak Pontoon where you started the quest.
- Select Icy Worksite and then move the parts to the left fields. You have to fit them into the slots properly. The final look of the icebreaker is shown in the image above.
- Icebreaker will be installed on your ship and will remain an active piece of equipment until the end of the DLC. Its main uses are described in more detail on the How to unlock the icebreaker? FAQ page.
The Narwhal
- Completing this quest is required to gain access to the central part of the archipelago. When you reach Pale Reach for the first time, only a small northern part of the region will be accessible.
- Start at Bleak Pontoon and enter Pale Reach from the north. Reach the inactive ship and the ice barrier (see the image).
- You will talk to the Photographer about the local beast, Narwhal. The woman will say that you have to deliver fish to attract Narwhal.
- You must fill all 16 slots. It is recommended to choose fish of regular rectangular shapes, e.g. Icefish or Toothfish. If you have trouble finding fishing spots, take a few breaks at Bleak Pontoon or start swimming around the Pale Reach archipelago.
- After delivering all the fish, Narwhal will appear and destroy the ice barrier. Thanks to this, you will gain access to the central area of Pale Reach and after sailing further south, you will reach the Central Camp associated with the Under the Ice quest.
Under the Ice
- This is the largest main quest offered by The Pale Reach DLC. You must first complete The Narwhal quest described above though. This will allow you to enter the main part of the archipelago. Now, you'll have to reach Central Camp.
- Once docked, examine the Ice Shard and you will learn of a character, Shadow of a Captain, trapped in the ice and who you can talk to. You cannot free her for now.
There are a total of 4 characters trapped in ice in the Pale Reach area and they are all related to this quest. They are:
- Shadow of a Captain from the Central Camp in the middle of the map.
- Whisper of a Navigator from Western Bearing in the western part of the map.
- Memory of a Boatswain from the Eastern Terminus in the eastern part of the map.
- Echo of an Officer from the Southern Locus in the southern part of the map.
You can reach Western Bearing and Eastern Terminus only after destroying the next ice barriers. After reaching each barrier, you must interact with the Feeding Station and fill it to the maximum with the caught fish. Just like in The Narwhal quest, an underwater creature will emerge from the water and break the barrier.
You can reach the Southern Locus only after constructing the icebreaker, i.e. after completing the Icebreaker quest.
- In order to free the NPCs, you will need Ice Axes. You can find them in different parts of the archipelago after building an icebreaker. Each Ice Axe is lost once you've used it, so you need to get 4 different axes (in any order).
- The first Ice Axe can be fished out in a narrow passage near Western Bearing.
- The second Ice Axe can be fished out in the area east of Central Camp. It had been inaccessible until you broke through the ice blocks.
- The third Ice Axe can be fished out in the area enclosed by ice in the northeastern part of the archipelago.
- The last fourth Ice Axe can be fished out in a clearly visible place next to the Southern Locus.
- Having obtained the axes, reach any location with an Ice Shard. Then, select the Break the Ice option and move the Ice Axe to the left slot.
- The ice will break and the crew member's soul will be released. A Frozen Heart will always appear in the place where you used the Ice Axe. There are a total of 4 hearts to collect.
- All hearts need to be delivered to Rock Slab in the north-eastern part of the map (see the image; it is the same area where you previously found Ice Axes).
- Move 4 Frozen Hearts to the left slots. The rewards for completing the quest are Radiant Trawl Nets (the possibility to catch fish from the following groups: Ice, Coastal, Oceanic and Shallow; larger net capacity) and the Under the Ice trophy.
Ice Shaper
- This task becomes available after completing the Icebreaker quest, i.e. after installing an icebreaker on your ship.
- Visit the Bleak Pontoon again and explore the Icy Worksite again. The Travelling Merchant will tell you about the possibility of obtaining the device in question.
- Ice Shaper can be found southwest of Bleak Pontoon. The location is shown in the pictures. You can get there by using the Icebreaker to break through the ice blocks.
- Return to Bleak Pontoon, select Icy Worksite again and move the device to the left slot.
- From now on, you can buy Ice Blocks from the Travelling Merchant. Put them in your ship's hold and it'll make the fish you store there go off much later. The more Ice Blocks, the better the final effect. They also have their own energy bars. Once the bars are empty, the blocks will disappear from the hold and you will have to restock them.
Figure in White
- This is a DLC side quest that you can unlock by exploring the outer areas of Pale Reach. Swim to the location where Hooded Figure is, as shown in the pictures. This character will task you with delivering certain rare species of fish.
- The first order is to deliver Fractalline Icefish. Reach spots where you can catch Icefish and keep fishing until you catch the specific Aberrated Icefish you are looking for.
- The second order is to deliver Fallen Stars. This is a rarer variety of Sea Stars - you need to get Crab Pot cages, which you can, e.g. buy from the Travelling Merchant in Bleak Pontoon.
- You don't have to place cages all over the Pale Reach. You can leave them in the water, e.g. next to Bleak Pontoon, to easily return to them. Wait to catch the aberration you are looking for.
- The last third mission is to catch a Craterous Seer. This species can only be caught with a net. We recommend completing Under the Ice main quest, thanks to which you will obtain large-capacity Radiant Trawl Net. Craterous Seer requires 2x2 slots.
- After completing all 3 orders, you will receive a reward - Book of Astral Symbols. Set it as active to start reading it. Reading it in 100% will increase your chances of catching Aberration variants by 4%.
