Before you go fishing, you should collect and install the best parts for your ship. On this page of the Dredge guide, you will find recommendations for the best fishing setup that you should get for your ship. This will allow you to catch fish quickly and effectively and get rich faster.
How to unlock the best ship components?
- The best fishing rods, nets, engines, lighting components, and other items that help you catch fish are not available by default. You won't be able to buy them too early, even if you collect enough cash.
- Access to the best components is possible primarily through research, but the best equipment is usually located at the very end of the technology tree and requires the most Research Parts to develop it.
- You can also obtain some unique parts, e.g. by solving puzzles hidden in the game world.
- If you want to have a set of top equipment to choose from, we also recommend playing The Pale Reach DLC. Thanks to it, you will gain access to, among others, very good fishing nets.
Engine
We do not recommend having only 2-3 large engines, because damage to one of them may greatly hinder your travel and make it difficult for you to get out of a dangerous situation.
You can obtain the best engines through research. We recommend purchasing:
- 1 Engine Stack - it will take up 2x3 slots and adds 64 nodes to the ship's speed.
- 4 Jet Drive Engines - each of them takes up only 1 slot and adds 9.5 nodes. In total, you can use them to gain 38 knots for your ship's speed.
The total maximum speed of the ship with all parts will be 102 knots. Until you unlock the Engine Stack, you can have more Jet Drive Engines installed. Get rid of them after you finish researching the last engine.
Fishing equipment
In the case of a fishing rod, the universal initial choice is the Versatile Rod, which can be unlocked through research, as it allows you to fish in as many as 4 types of fishing spots (Coastal, Shallow, Mangrove, Volcanic). The fishing rod requires 2x3 slots in the hold.
Ultimately, we recommend having the following fishing setup:
- Fathomless Winch - 2x2 slots, for fishing in Abyssal, Hadal and Oceanic. Unlocked by research.
- Anti-Tangle Line - 2x2 slots, for Magrove and Coastal fishing. Unlocked by research.
- Sinew Spindle - 1x2 slots, for fishing in Shallow and Coastal. Obtained by completing The Marrows Rock Slab puzzle.
- In the case of fishing nets, you should try to unlock Heavy Duty Trawl Net (Oceanic and Coastal fish, 2x3 slots in the hold, 90 fish slots).
- If you have The Pale Reach DLC, consider an alternative in the form of Radiant Trawl Net. You get it for completing Under the Ice main quest (Ice, Coastal, Oceanic, Shallow fish, 2x2 slots in the hold, 49 fish slots, 5% aberration bonus).
Ship lights
- After the ship is 100% upgraded, you will ultimately have 4 light slots and you should use them all.
- Initially, you should use Incandescent Array (3 slots) and Cloudy Lens (1 slot). Such lighting will provide you with a total of 3,750 lumens.
- After solving the Stone Tablets puzzle in the Ancient Lighthouse in the Devil's Spine region, you will gain access to the best lamp, Flame of the Sky (2 slots). Install it together with 2 units of Cloudy Lens. The total value of the ship's lights will then be as much as 5,000 lumens.
