Dredge The Iron Rig: Key buildings on the drilling rig Dredge guide, tips

The rig buildings is the central location of The Iron Rig DLC for the Dredge game. This page of the guide compiles the platform's main buildings along with their uses - these include the Factory, Fleet Services, Smelter, Technical Laboratory, and Podrynek.

Foundry, factory, tech lab, undermarket, fleet services or storage these are just some of the buildings you'll find on the oil rig in The Iron Rig. On this page of our guide for Dredge you will find information about the most important applications of buildings - you will learn what you can receive, buy or create through crafting.

The list below concerns permanent buildings, i.e. those that will remain available after completing all the expansion's quests. You can learn about the circumstances of unlocking and building new structures from our walkthrough - DLC quests.

Dock

  1. The place to moor the boat is at one of the yellow supports of the drilling rig. You can use it from your first visit to the platform.
  2. In addition to going to the main window, this is where you can save the game and speed up the passage of time.

Factory

  1. Ultimately, it may have 4 tiers and each level will have different objects to construct. Tier 1 is very important as it enables you to build infused gear - these are special types of fishing rods that you will use to catch fish in the DLC's fishing spots.
  2. The materials needed include common variations of the same rods, and you can easily buy them by visiting the Undermarket on the rig.
  1. Tier 2 is material acquisition equipment. You will build the Siphon Trawler as part of completing quests and it will be used to acquire Dark Canisters.
  2. The material harvester is very helpful - you can use it to catch crafting ingredients in the net, e.g. metal scraps or lumber. This is a better method than reaching fishing spots - you can learn more on this on the page titled How to obtain materials by dredging?.
  1. Tier 3 contains small disposable items for repairing boats and getting rid of panic - they may be useful during longer trips.
  2. Tier 4 contains various types of bait, with which you can catch, among others, exotic fish or aberrations. You may need, among other things, regular bait, which you can buy at the Market Square or from the flyer in the Twisted Strand region.

My storage

  1. You can easily bring up the warehouse window with stored items and transfer them between the warehouse and the ship's hold.
  2. The storage is also available in other locations where you can dock your boat and its contents are always available there. It is not unique to the drilling rig.

Fleet services

  1. In this building you will find a list of ship upgrades available for purchase.
  2. Most of the upgrades are already familiar from the base game, but their tree has been expanded. The most valuable upgrade to build is the Tier 5 Hull. It can increase the ship's durability and add up to 11 new slots in the cargo hold.

Foundry

  1. The first level of the foundry enables you to produce ironhaven crates - this is an alternative to searching for places where you can catch them. In addition to cash, unfortunately, 3 different crafting ingredients are required.
  1. The second tier of the foundry offers a larger number of items. First of all, you can craft dark canisters (instead of collecting them using a siphon trawler) as well as research components or common crafting materials.
  2. Using the foundry is a good solution if, for example, you are missing a single ingredient to complete a project.

Tech Lab

  1. At the first tier, the lab offers 3 unlockable ship equipment upgrades, for example to more effectively find loot using the scope. The second tier contains various upgrades to the ship's hull and stats. For example, you can improve the speed of catching fish or the ship's turn rate.
  2. Each lab project requires research components, which you can find as loot or buy in stores (including: on the undermarket) or crafted in the foundry.

Undermarket

  1. The undermarket primarily enables you to purchase basic versions of fishing rods and nets. You can then use them to build infused gear in your factory.
  1. In other tabs you will find, among others, engines, lighting and crafting materials. The last tab may also contain useful baits and research components.
  2. You can also pay for repairs by visiting the undermarket.
