At the beginning of playing Dredge, your cutter does not impress with its speed and travels are quite time-consuming. From this page of the game guide you will learn how to sail your ship faster, where to buy better engines and what are the ways to increase the speed of your vehicle.

Travelling between locations in Dredge is time-consuming - a speed up would be nice. Below we described methods of increasing movement speed, allowing you to get to your destination much faster.
Buying a new engine
The most evident and best method to increase movement speed is buying and installing new, better, engines. This is done at the Shipwright in Greater Marrow and in Shipyards in any Pontoon location.
More advanced units require necessary researching. You can access the Research menu when docked at any location - from there, switch to the Engines tab to view the available projects.

Haste
Haste is a skill obtained after delivering the first Relic to the Collector in Blackthorn Isle. You can use it to get a short-term boost to speed. To access the skill, open the wheel menu (E on PC, L1 on Play Station, LB on Xbox). Now press and hold the button assigned to the Haste skill, which is RMB (PC), Square (PS), or X (Xbox).
Haste gives your ship a brief, but very significant boost to speed. Especially useful when attempting to escape from a dangerous situation. You can view how much Haste is left by checking out the bar in the bottom-left corner of the screen. If the bar is completely filled, your engine will start receiving damage and you'll need to repair it.

Books that increase traveling speed
There are 2 books in the game that when read, increase engine performance. These are:
- Correct Engine Operation - the speed of the ship will increase by 5%.
- Pushing the Limits: Engines - ship speed will increase by 7.5%.
