To everyone who has played RPG games, the gameplay in Disco Elysium should not cause difficulty. However, the game features various mechanics that may be somewhat problematic for beginners: Skill checks, Thought Cabinet, Political Alignment.
The game places the greatest emphasis on the narrative layer, by which during the course of gameplay you have to really read a lot (or listen to the dialogues), and combat occurs here intermittently - also in the form of dialogues and skill tests.
The gameplay in Disco Elysium is based on the development of specific attributes and skills, as well as on decisions - some of them can facilitate the passage of a given stage, and others will greatly complicate matters, so you will need to look for another solution to the problem. Fortunately, in the game, you can use quicksaves to repeat skill check attempts or try something else if you fail.
It is also worth mentioning that Disco Elysium has two levels of difficulty:
- Normal: recommended for most players;
- Hardcore Mode: hardcore mode makes gameplay much more difficult, so it is recommended only for experienced players who are familiar with Disco Elysium.
It's hard to tell unequivocally if playing Disco Elysium is difficult because it certainly isn't aimed at all players, and longer sessions with this title can be exhausting. If you like point-and-click RPGs, and you like to read, it's worth delving into Harry's story and devote about 20-25 hours to it.
