Disco Elysium: Character Development Disco Elysium guide, walkthrough
Last update: 24 March 2021
On this page of the Disco Elysium game guide, you will find all the relevant information about character development mechanics.
In Disco Elysium, you'll continually develop your player character to increase his abilities, allowing you to successfully pass new Skill Checks and gain progress in the investigation. In Disco Elysium, as in other RPGs, the Player receives experience points for performing certain actions and consequently gains new levels and Skill Points, which can be spent in several ways.
How do I earn experience points (XP)?
In Disco Elysium, you must earn Experience Points to level up and earn Skill Points. While playing Disco Elysium you can find two sources of XP:
- NPC Conversation;
- Completing tasks (main and side tasks).
Certain thoughts in the Thought Cabinet can provide a character with additional experience points: Jamais Vu (Derealization), Actual Art Degree, Mazovian Socio-Economics, Wompty-Dompty Dom Center. more information on all the thoughts available in Disco Elysium, visit the Thought Cabinet page.
What do I spend my Skill Points on?
Skill points in Disco Elysium can be invested in a variety of ways: increase the level of a particular skill, remove thoughts from the Thought Cabinet, or purchase an additional thought slot.
It is worth noting here that the player is not obliged to dispose of his skill points immediately. You can save them for later and use them to pass a difficult skill test, for example.
Increase the level of individual skills
Increasing a character's skill level is the main way to spend earned Skill Points. After going to the character tab, you can check how many points you have and decide which abilities you will develop. If you accidentally raise the level of the wrong skill, you can undo it by clicking the Revert button.
Erasing a thought
Once a thought is fully researched (reaches 100% progress), it is permanently equipped and can be deleted by clicking the Forget button, but this action has some consequences:
- Removing a thought costs 1 skill point;
- The thought is permanently removed from the list.
New thought slot
At the beginning of Disco Elysium, you have 3 slots for thoughts. If you have used all of the slots in the Thought Cabinet, you can unlock new ones, but it costs 1 Skill Point.
