This guide page to Ghost of Tsushima contains a walkthrough of the side quest called The Legacy of Kazumasa Sakai available in the Iki Island DLC. We explain how to find out about the Sakai horse armor and how to properly examine the ship graveyard to find this artifact and complete the mythic tale.

Mythic tale rewards

The main reward for passing this mythical quest is the Sakai horse armor which is found on board one of the ships in the ship graveyard. It will be put automatically on the main character's horse. It allows you to deal more damage with horse charges and further reduces the risk of falling from the horse when it gets attacked. Use charge every time you you come across enemies.

Additionally, you will receive an average bonus to your Legend (XP).

Unlocking the quest

You can unlock this task by visiting Sheltered Campsite located on the eastern shore of the Iki Island - next to Zasho Bay.

Choose the option to join the people sitting around the campfire and listen to Jiro's story. The main character will protest after hearing a fragment of the story about his father and reveal his true identity. You will be expelled from the camp.

Sneak into the camp to hear the rest of the story

Investigate the area to the left of the guarded passage. In the place in the picture, you can squeeze under the wreckage.

Get to the place where you can listen to the second part of the story. After you find out about the shipwreck and the Lost Horse Armor, return to the beach the same way.

Find the horse armour of Kazumasa Sakai

To find horse armor, you will need to search the ship graveyard in the gulf (the search area is marked on the world map). Your destination is the ship with the flag of the house of Sakai (see the picture). Unfortunately, you can't climb aboard it right away. You need to take the longer path through the cemetery - we described it below.

Start near the larger shipwreck shown in the pictures. You can swim there without any problems. Get out of the water and climb the rocks next to the wreck.

Board the large ship. Go to its highest point in the front part and jump towards the rope shown in the picture. Start walking on it. A little further, you can jump to the second rope.

Next, jump on the larger rock shelf, and then climb to the nearest mast of one of the wrecks. Go to the other end and make a jump towards the next high rocks.

In the next area, use a rope with a hook on the mast - you need to hold R2 first and then L2. This will move it a bit.

Return to the top shelf. Note that you can use the rope with a hook on the end of the mast to swing. Make a jump and grab the second grappling point visible in the distance. Pull yourself towards it to climb another shelf.

In the next location, you have to swim through the hole shown in the picture.

You will reach a larger area - check out the wreckage on the left. In the place from the picture, you can grab the hook and start to pull the rope to destroy the support. This will change the position of the wreck.

You can now jump on the wreckage that was moved just now. Run to the opposite end of it. On the new rock shelf, you will find a mast. Climb it and use the grappling point. You have to swing on the rope and jump to the new water tank located behind the rocks.

When you get to the new location, check out the left mast shown in the picture. You have to skew the mast, i.e. use the rope with a hook on it and pull yourself towards it.

You must now return to the previous area - locate two holes through which you can swim (the larger second hole is shown in picture 1). Get back to the place where you made the jump on the rope earlier. By bending the mast, you can do more jumps (picture 2). Eventually, you will reach the larger ship.

You have to knock down the mast on the larger ship - use the rope with a hook (hold R2 and L2).

This should trigger another vision. If you want to avoid problems like falling into the water, then just wait a while for the hallucinations to end.

Jump on the big downed mast and move towards the small rock shelf. Next, go to the hanging rope and continue to move forward. In the distance, you will see the previously mentioned ship with the flag of the Sakai family, your destination.

Starting from here, you have to avoid the big waves crashing on the rocks because they can push Jin into the water and force you to repeat the section. You have to:

1. get as close as you can to the rocks the waves crash against,
2. wait for the next wave,
3. jump towards the shelf right when the wave crashes against the rock,
4. quickly escape from the rocks before the next wave appears.

In the case of the first rock shelf, you must immediately make a jump and grab the top grappling point(image above).

Jump on the rope. Wait until the wave appears and then jump again. After you land on the next little shelf, make a jump towards the hanging rope and press R2 to grab it. Climb the rope and move on.

Move on the rope and approach the two rock shelves which the waves crash against. Perform the first jump right when the wave hits it to have as much time as possible for the next actions. You need to reach the larger rocks shown in the picture.

You'll be right under the wreckage of the Sakai ship. Walk on the fallen mast - it will collapse under the hero's weight.

Go right and examine the path shown in the image leading to the rear of the wreck.

Reach the hanging rope and follow it to get closer to the shelf in picture 1.

Waves crash against the rock shelf - wait for the perfect moment to make the next move. After landing on the shelf, quickly turn towards the wreckage and grab the upper grappling point(picture 2). You can pull up now and get to the wreck with horse armor.

Defeat the Mongols

You will be able to test the horse armor immediately on a group of Mongols who appeared on the beach. Try to charge with the horse at larger groups. Depending on how much Resolve you have, try to attack at least 2-3 times to easily deal with some opponents.

In the final phase of the fight, you will probably have to deal with the remaining Mongols personally.

Speak to the survivors

Meet the people from the camp to end this quest. You can choose any dialogue option - this will not affect the rewards you get for this quest.
