This page of the Ghost of Tsushima game guide contains a list of all the animal species that can be tamed or petted on Iki Island in the DLC. You will also learn where to find friendly animals and how to encourage them to approach Jin in order to pet them. Additionally, we list the rewards you can earn for discovering unique animal locations.
Tameable animal species
On Iki Island, you won't encounter any new foxes like in the basic campaign, but there are 3 new friendly species of animals which you can pet once you meet the particular requirements. These are:
1) Cats
2) Deer
3) Monkeys
Animal sanctuaries - what are they?
Each of the aforementioned animal species has a corresponding Sanctuary, which are a type of optional location you can discover. This means that the sanctuaries can be hidden behind the question marks that appear as you traverse Iki Island.
Visiting a sanctuary may require defeating a group of opponents, which may include, for example, Mongols or guard dogs. Depending on the location, you may get the chance to surprise your enemies or Jin may be surprised instead.
In each sanctuary, you have to position yourself in the flute playing location.
Playing the flute is a new kind of mini-game which utilises the controller's gyro sensors. Specifically, you will need to move the entire pad up and down. This is to keep the green ball within the moving lines. If you succeed, then you will be able to pet the animal.
Various types of talismans are associated with the sanctuaries, e.g. one that allows you to shoot more arrows at once. You can improve the statistics of a given talisman by finding more sanctuaries corresponding to a particular animal species.
