Rewards for completing the quest
The only reward for completing this quest is a sizeable bonus to your Legend (XP).
Speak with Fune in her refuge
To start this quest, you need to return to Fune's Refuge and start a conversation with Fune in the main hut. You can choose any dialog option during the meeting.
Additional hint - The horse armor rewarded for completing The Legacy of Kazumasa Sakai mythic tale (you can find its walthrough in a separate chapter of the guide) may be useful during this quest. It would be a good idea to complete that tale first.
Survey the area to plan the ambush
You will automatically start travelling on horseback towards the titular Kidafure village, where intense fights will soon take place. You can find a lot of valuable supplies in the village.
In order to survey the area, climb the observation tower in the village.
You can investigate:
- the tree line visible in the distance,
- the buildings next to a large tree,
- the open space near the bridge (closest to the tower).
You must then wait until nightfall for the fighting to begin.
Reach the fireworks to join the ambush
You have to get on the character's horse and ride towards the area where the fireworks exploded - this will be the location of the first battle.
The horse charge ability is a great way to initiate fights - make sure to aim at the group of Mongols and then press the L1 button to charge at them at high speed. There is a good chance that some of them will die immediately or take significant damage.
You don't have to keep fighting the Mongols on horseback. It's a good idea to press the jump button to leap towards your opponent once you get close enough.
During direct combat, focus on the shamans as always and there is a chance that at least two of them might be standing further away from the battle. Dispatch them quickly (preferably using a bow), then resume attacking the remaining Mongols. During the fights, seek out opportunities to attack opponents who are busy fighting against your allies.
During this and subsequent battles, there is a chance that one of your important allies may be killed on the battlefield. You need to quickly revive them by walking up to them and holding the healing button. Do this only after eliminating the nearby Mongols - quickly killing them using bombs or strong melee attacks may be the best option in this situation.
Winning the battle doesn't end the quest, as more fireworks will appear in the distance and you'll have to head towards the second battle's location.
During this battle, it's a good idea to use the bow on the wagons with explosives when the Mongols are near them. Later during the battle, you might get the chance to charge the Mongols with your horse or you can opt to fight them in regular battles, during which you should kill their shamans first.
Once you have disposed of the nearby Mongols, you will need to visit another fireworks location. This time, however, you won't automatically engage in direct combat. Once you arrive at the location, a cut-scene will play and you will have the chance to surprise your opponents.
Defeat the Mongols
Remember to use the Focused Hearing ability often to easily find nearby Mongols and avoid being taken by surprise. Also note the positions of enemy shamans to deal with them immediately or a little later.
Use stealth attacks, weapons and gadgets, depending on your preference. Upper platforms can help you get around the nearby area or you can go around the Mongol camp from different directions. If direct fighting occurs, then make sure to dispatch any remaining shamans first.
Free the captive raiders
You will find the prisoners in the camp where the Mongols resided.
Lead the raiders back to the tower
More fireworks will appear and you will receive a warning about incoming Mongolian troops. You need to retreat to the village.. Get there on horseback.
The quest's third major battle will take place in the village You can (and should) start by charging on the horse into one of the larger groups of opponents.
Once the regular battle begins, eliminate the shamans quickly, attack the Mongols busy fighting with their allies and react quickly if one of your important allies falls on the battlefield.
Reach the encounter area
Soon you will notice more fireworks and you need to reach the area of the final battle. As before, it's a good idea to start the fight by charging on horseback.
Attack the Mongols from the last group, starting with the shamans and then looking for opportunities for easy kills. You must fight until the leftover Mongol troops will attempt to escape. There's no need to chase after them. The quest will end with a cut-scene involving Tenzo. A new main quest will be unlocked: The Blessing of Death.
