On this page of the guide to Ghost of Tsushima you will find a walkthrough of the Journey Into The Past quest - this is the first quest related to Iki Island and DLC content. The walkthrough explains e.g. how to explore the village, how to defeat the Mongols in the village, how to start the journey to Iki Island and what to do right after you get there.

Rewards for completing the quest
This quest doesn't grant any physical rewards. The possibility to move to a new map - Iki Island is a reward in itself. This will unlock new quests and optional activities, as well as allow you to explore a whole new region of the world, independent of Tsushima.
Once you complete this mission, the game will unlock new stories:
- A Lost Friend - we advise making this story your priority
- The Eagle's Cry
Investigate the settlement
If you have met all the requirements to unlock the quest, the story will automatically appear in your journal. It indicates a village in the Toyotama region which you have to visit.
After reaching the village, you can optionally talk to one of the villagers and explore the larger cabin where you'll find the first DLC-related note, among other items.
Eventually, you need to start following the tracks in the sand.
The tracks will lead you to a shelter that you can examine. Examining the Mongolian altar from the image above is the most important. Interacting with it will make the Mongols appear.
Defeat the Mongols
You will encounter shamans for the first time during this fight - they encourage other enemies to fight, simultaneously increasing their combat skills. Thus, you should always try to identify and eliminate shamans quickly. To kill them, you can use long-range weapons or defeat them in close combat (they aren't dangerous in this type of fighting).
Once you defeat the first enemy group in the village, more Mongols will show up. Again, look for at least one shaman, but also watch out for archers and an enemy with a shield (they often use red attacks).
Interrogate the Mongol Shaman
Find the shaman among the defeated Mongols. Pressing the interact button will start an interrogation, during which you will learn about the Mongol leader called the Eagle. After the interrogation ends, Jin will meet up with Yuna.
Speak with the boatman to sail for Iki Island
You'll find the boatman next to the boat moored at the shore near the village where you fought recently.
During the conversation, you must confirm that you want to go to Iki Island. As the warning says, you will not be able to return to Tsushima for a while.
Shore sequence
After the boat crashes, you will be stranded on the shore and won't be able to use the map for a while. Fortunately, this is not a demanding sequence. Go along the coastline, passing through the cave along the way (there is a new note by the corpse).
You must use a rope with hook in the spot from the image - first hold R2, then L2. This will allow you to get out of the cave.
When you arrive at the vantage point on the beach, the quest will end. The game will unlock the map of Iki Island and it allow you to use fast travel to get to discovered locations on the map.
