Rewards for completing the quest
You get rewards for defeating the Eagle - the expansion's the final boss. These are:
Mask of the Eagle - this item does not have any statistics, it also prevents the use of a separate headgear
Samurai Clan Armor Dye
A large bonus to your Legend (XP).
Unlocking the quest
You can start this quest after completing the Massacre at Kidafure Village main quest. The place where the story begins is located on a hill south of Fort Sakai. Jin will meet Tenzo and Fune there.
Listen to the conversation. After that, the night will come. You need to get away from the campfire where the main character was waiting for Tenzo.
Ride with Tenzo to meet his scouts
Get on your horse and follow Tenzo. Once you get there, talk to one of the scouts.
Look for the Eagle
You need to get to spot where you can start a reconnaissance. This area is shown in the above image. When you get there, you will see the Eagle accompanied by other Mongols.
Defeat the Mongols
March towards the Mongol troops. You will trigger hallucinations in which Jin will be attacked by the Eagle. You have to defend yourself. Even though this is a hallucination, you can still get hurt:
- try to parry the Eagle's blue attacks,
- dodge all her red attacks.
Each hallucination will stop after some time. You don't have to "beat" the Eagle.
When the hallucinations stop, you can deal with the Mongols. Remember, as always, to prioritize finding and killing shamans. You can also attack those enemies who are busy fighting with allies.
After you win the battle, talk to Tenzo.
Ride with Tenzo to Senjo Gorge
Get on your horse and start riding. You will encounter new Mongols meaning there will be more fighting. Remember that you have a horse charge, which can be useful for attacking a larger group. You can also jump off the horse on one of the enemies.
Focus on identifying shamans and killing them. After that, you can choose the next targets to attack. Avoid contact with fire.
After the battle, listen to another conversation with Tenzo and Fune.
Enter the canyons
The path leading through the canyon is long. During it, you will have to eliminate subsequent groups of opponents.
Expect more hallucinations - you may have to, e.g. defend yourself from the Eagle. Parry blue attacks or use a dodge (for blue/red attacks) while waiting for the hallucination to end.
When facing "normal" enemies, focus on locating shamans who can stand, for example, a little farther.
Be ready to rescue one of the fallen allies, but only after you deal with the enemies near them.
Confront the Eagle
After passing through the main part of the canyon, you will talk with Fune. The two of you and Tenzo will search for the Eagle.
Prepare for the final battle before you enter the location shown in the picture - heal Jin, save the game, and wear the right armor:
- If you have completed The Legend of Black Hand Riku mythic tale, you can wear the Sarugami armor but only if you are good at performing perfect dodges and parries (the maximum upgrade of this armor increases the chances of success).
- If you did not complete that mythic tale or do not want to take risks, then wear any other armor that offers, for example, damage resistance or a bonus to damage dealt.
The Eagle is the DLC's final boss. It will be a one-on-one fight, as Tenzo will fight with another person in the background - both fights are completely independent of each other.
Final boss - the first phase of the duel with the Eagle
The duel with the Eagle consists of two parts. However, the boss will use the same attacks in both of them.
During the battle, focus on adjusting Jin's stance to the boss's weapons:
- If the Eagle chooses a sword, switch to the stone stance.
- If the Eagle uses a glaive, activate the wind stance.
You must change the stances on the fly.
When using the sword, the Eagle can perform a series of rapid attacks, which can be regular, blue, or red. She can also perform combinations of attacks.
When using the glaive, the Eagle can use different types of attacks, including the one in which she rolls and then performs a strike. The majority of these attacks are the red type.
The opponent also uses ranged attacks. She can throw single projectiles - in a series of 3 throws. Fortunately, you can easily avoid them by jumping sideways (3 times in total).
As in most other difficult fights, the key to weakening the Eagle is to parry her attacks and use dodges. If you use Sarugami armor, then in both cases you will be able to perform more successful counterattacks. However, even without this armor, you will have plenty of chances to weaken the boss.
Do not forget about healing Jin - the Eagle's attacks can deal considerable damage. Heal after you move away from her - especially if she currently uses the glaive.
The first phase of the fight will end with a hallucination of the main character's father. You do not have to do anything here - just watch the cut-scene and wait for the fight to resume.
Final boss - the second phase of the duel with the Eagle
In the second phase of the duel, you will have to deplete the remaining portion of the Eagle's health. As we have already mentioned, the strategy remains the same:
- choose the right stance for the Eagle's weapon,
- parry her normal and blue attacks,
- use dodging to avoid attacks that can't be parried (red attack) or too dangerous,
- jump to the sides to avoid the Eagle's ranged attakcs.
Continue fighting until you defeat the Eagle - this will trigger a new cut-scene.
After talking with Tenzo, the main character will decide to write a new haiku. You can choose its fragments - this does not affect further events.
Epilogue: Last Words
The DLC isn't over yet - you have to complete a short epilogue (Epilogue: Last Words). You have to get to Fune's Refuge to meet Tenzo and Fune for the last time. That place is shown in the picture. Your choice of a dialogue option during the conversation with Tenzo is not important.
You can continue to explore the Iki island (or return to Tsushima) to finish side quests, obtain collectibles, or do the side activities.
