Saruiwa is a location with a mountain, which can be found in the southwest part of Iki Island. You can head there at any time after you arrive on Iki Island from the DLC.

Question mark in Saruiwa - what does it mark?

As you approach the top of the mountain, you will notice a question mark indicating a unique location on the summit. This location is the Monkey Sanctuary. It's not an especially significant site, although you will need to explore it if you plan to reach 100% completion of the Iki Island DLC.

Mountain climbing description

You must start the climb at the base of the mountain, at the location of the 2 monkey statues - this area is pictured in the screenshot.

Keep climbing higher up the ledges. On the way, you'll pass another hook on the left, but ignore it. Go directly to the narrow passage between the rocks pictured in the screenshot. Slip to the other side.

Continue on, skipping over small precipices and climbing on higher ledges. Follow the main path, passing small groups of statues along the way.

Your goal is to reach the location from the screenshot. Ignore the passage over the precipice to the right and start gripping onto the ledges to the left to resume climbing the mountain.

Climb onto the branch that you lowered by using the grappling hook. Follow it up by jumping to the hanging rope and pressing R2 in mid-air to hook onto it. This way you will attach yourself to it and allow you to continue climbing.

Follow the newly discovered mountain path. At its end, you will find flowers and more interactive cliff edges to grab onto - go up first and then to the left. Finally, jump onto the branch sticking out of the rock.

You will find yourself on a rock ledge with an interactive hook next to it. Use the grappling hook to grab onto it, but this time head down.

You need to grab the cliff edge and climb down using the ledges located below. Your goal is to land on a new suspended rope and use it to reach another rock ledge. Another rope can be spotted nearby - you will have to use it as well.

You will be faced with a rope jumping section:

  1. reach the end of the horizontal rope and use the grappling hook to latch onto the first hook,
  2. swing and jump - you will need to latch onto the second hook mid-flight (pictured above),
  3. once again, swing on the rope and then jump towards the nearby small rock ledge.

Right next to this ledge, you will find more interactive cliff edges which will allow you to continue your climb. In its final section, you will notice a new interactive hook - grab onto it in flight using the grappling hook and move towards the higher ledge.

Climb even higher. In the pictured locations, you will need to lower the branch, i.e. hold R2 and then L2, the way you have already learned. This will allow you to jump to it. Above this branch, there is a new hook - attack yourself to it and climb up.

On the left side, you will notice an interactive hook near a protruding branch. Use the grappling hook on it and swing on the rope before you make a jump. Latch onto the second hook in mid-air and after swinging on the rope, jump to the rock ledge.

In the place where you landed, you will find more interactive cliff edges that you can climb. The last mountain path will lead you to the top to the monkey sanctuary.

After completing the flute mini-game in the sanctuary, you can press R2 to automatically return to the bottom (there are no other unique secrets in the area). You can also, of course, use fast travel.
