Quest rewards
The rewards for completing this quest are:
- A large bonus to your Legend (XP).
- Minor Ranged Charm - you will receive the same talisman no matter how you act at the end of the story. In case you run out of arrows, this talisman lets you retrieve an arrow shot towards Jin by an enemy archer.
- 10x Linen.
Unlocking the quest
The quest marker will appear in the central part of the island, next to Lake Nagata. Talk to the villagers there.
Find Hotoke
The villagers will recommend meeting with Hotoke. The woman can be found crouching by one of the huts on a small hill.
Travel with Hotoke to find the rescue party
Follow Hotoke until you arrive at the Kidafure Battleground with her. You need to explore it. Two bodies can be found in the area and Hotoke can identify each of the victims.
Follow the trail of rice
To progress the quest, locate the spilled rice from the screenshot. You will notice footprints and rice forming a trail that you can start following.
Eventually, you will reach the location where you can assassinate 2 Mongolian guards.
Look for the captured monk and husband
You will need to survey the area Press the R2 trigger and start looking around:
- The monk is being held on the left side (screenshot no. 1).
- The husband of the woman accompanying you is being held on the right side (screenshot no. 2).
Choose which hostage to save
An important aspect of this quest objective is that you can only save one of the captured people. Even if you play very carefully and lure away individual enemies to dispose of them in secluded locations, the Mongols will still kill one of the prisoners and attempt to kill the other.
You will fail the quest if both of the prisoners die- you will return to the last checkpoint and you will be able to try again.
During this entire quest, beware of enemies with skulls over their heads. They are on their way to murder one of the prisoners and you have to stop them - use melee weapons or some kind of ranged attack.
No matter who you choose to save, it may be a good idea to head for the left or right hill. This will help you identify the shamans and it's a good idea to eliminate them with a bow or poisoned darts, for example. You can also attack more enemies from here.
During melee encounters, avoid becoming surrounded by too many Mongols and react appropriately to their attacks, especially the blue and red ones. Even if you eliminate the group guarding your chosen prisoner, expect the Mongols to arrive from the opposite side of the beach. Until then, it would be good to get rid of as many of the nearby opponents as possible.
Depending on whether you saved the monk or Hotoke's husband, the final cut-scene will be different. In both cases, however, you will receive the same rewards for completing the quest.
