From this page of the Final Fantasy VII Remake game guide, you will learn what Materia is and how to use it.
Materia is one of the FF7 Remake mechanics, making it possible to personalize your characters even better fit the given role in the team. Thanks to Materia, you can use powerful spells and use additional abilities.
Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake allows the characters to use magic, thanks to which they can use offensive, for example, Ice or Fire, and defensive spells. Materia comes in the form of colorful crystal orbs that can be placed in weapons and equipment. There are several types of Materia in FF7 Remake, including red, purple, yellow, and blue.
All you have to do is open the inventory window, go to the weapons/accessories and place the Materia you want to use. Notice, that the number of slots in each weapon/accessory is limited - just a few Materia from an ever-growing pool. In the later stages of the game, you can buy weapon skills that, for example, increase the number of slots.
It is worth having your team equipped with various Materia because the enemies are susceptible to different attacks (they have a certain vulnerability to the elements). Many skills become even more powerful when used, earning AP points. For example, fire becomes Fira and then Firaga, Thunder - Thundara - Thundaga etc. Therefore, you should focus on variety and a properly prepared team.
Here, we listed some tips involving Materia:
- Assess, the Materia from Chadley, provides information about enemies, their vulnerabilities, etc. It is important that at least one team member is equipped to scan enemies in combat.
- Deadly Dodge, Cloud's Materia, inflicts a lot of damage on dodges - worth using, especially at the start of the game.
- At least one party member should a healing Materia. Healing Materia are essential in combat.
- Note that some weapons have connected slots. You can use Elemental Materia, for example, next to Lightning Materia, and your attacks will now inflict extra lightning damage. This is insanely useful for bosses who are vulnerable to specific elements.
