Final Fantasy VII Remake Intermission: Gigantipede - boss, how to beat?
This page of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intermission guide offers a walkthrough for the Gigantipede boss fight. You'll learn when the encounter takes place, what attacks boss has at its disposal and how to avoid them, and how to quickly and effectively take care of him.
The battle with Gigantipede takes place at the end of Chapter 1 of the Intermission expansion (Wutai's Finest) Yuffie and Sonon come to Zhijie's rescue, who while attempting to evade Shinra soldiers, has entered Main Pillar Maintenance Facility.
Resistances, weaknesses, basic information
Gigantipede is one of the bosses of Intermission expansion of Final Fantasy VII Remake. It's a gigantic mechanic polypod armed with thick armor and long range weapons, created by Shinra's Advanced Weaponry Division to defend Midgar's central pillar.
Weaknesses and Resistances
- Head: vulnerable to physical damage;
- Tail: vulnerable to Lightning (Thunder/Thundara, Ninjutsu), resistance to physical damage;
- Legs: vulnerable to physical damage
- Greater Resistance: Fire, Ice, Wind;
- Immunities: Poison, Silence, Sleep, Slow, Proportional Damage.
It should be mentioned here that Lightning attacks not only deal a lot of damage but also fill the Gigantipede's Stagger bar much faster.
First phase
After the fight commences, focus on attacking Gigantipede's tail - use Yuffie's ranged attacks (they deal Lightning damage) and when ATB is charged, use Thunder/Thundara and target the enemy's tail to place Pressured status on him.
When the boss is temporarily knocked down, run up to its head and perform as many physical attacks as possible (consider using Synergized Art of War).
?
After receiving serious damage, Gigantipede will retreat from the arena and grab onto a wall - attacking its head in this moment doesn't do much, as the damage will be severely mitigated. Gigantipede will start deploying battle drones which will fire laser beams and homing projectiles at your heroes - destroy them as soon as possible.
Once you destroy all battle drones, Gigantipede will grab on the barriers above the arena with its tail, and perform a strike from above. Once it hits the ground, it will deal a lot of damage to a large area.
Watch where the boss is going to land and avoid this area at all costs.
Once Gigantipede returns to the arena, once again start using Thunder/Thundara on its tail to induce Pressured status and focus on attacking its head, and you'll quickly begin the second phase of the battle.
Second phase
Once Gigantipede's health falls to 1/3 of his health bar, a short cut-scene will begin in which Yuffie deals, seemingly, a final blow. Unexpectedly, the strike will reveal a gigantic drill that was underneath the armor on polypod's head.
Every time you have the opportunity, attach a shuriken to the boss and use ranged attacks to deal additional damage.
The drill will folly any attempts to physically attack Gigantipede's head from the front. The boss can also charge at your heroes, dealing a lot of damage.
When additional battle drones start hovering around the arena, destroy them as soon as possible - use Sonom's help or summon Ramuh.
Ramuh Materia can be obtained after completing Combat Simulator side quest. A detailed walkthrough for the fight, as well as tips on how to defeat him can be found in the Combat Simulator - walkthrough, solution page of the guide.
Continue firing at boss's tail using Thunder/ Thundara to incapacitate it.
Once Gigantipede is vulnerable, focus on attacking its head and try to finish the battle here and now. If you have Yuffie's Limit Break at the ready, this is the moment to use it.
