Destiny 2: Boss battles - combat Destiny 2 Guide

Last update: 25 March 2021

In this chapter of the Destiny 2 game guide, you'll find a set of practical tips to help you fight bosses you might encounter as you play through story campaigns or which you come across during public events and other activities.

As you play in Destiny 2, you will have to defeat unlimited numbers of weak opponents. However, this hordes of evil forces will include slightly stronger opponents such as Champions, mini-bosses, and full-scale bosses. It is important to know how to fight stronger opponents to perform the tasks you are asked to do efficiently.

Boss fights in Destiny 2

Common opponents in Destiny 2 are usually small and possess a typical health bar. The stronger foes can stand out among the legion of enemy forces due to their stature, the color of the health bar, and an additional energy shield. Non-standard opponents can be identified by the color of their health bar:

  1. Red bar is commonly used by the ordinary enemies;
  2. The orange health bar color represents elite units, who often resemble slightly improved "ordinary" opponents. They usually are a bit stronger and are not much different from other slightly bigger enemies except for a shield or greater durability;
  3. The yellow health bar color indicates the boss. Be prepared to experience more difficulties here, and the opponent's abilities often exceed the standards of the battles you've seen so far.

If it is a fight against a mini-boss that is the leader of a small enemy group, then it is always better to destroy the weakest links, such as robots that fall down after 1-2 shots and inflict damage similar to other opponents.

During final boss fights it's worth trying to destroy them as quickly as possible, especially from a distance. The reason? If you defeat the main boss in the area, the remaining opponents will disappear. However, you can't always get rid of the main enemy in a mission without performing specific actions or getting rid of his vanguards (for example, when they provide him protection in the form of an indestructible shield).
