Destiny 2: Beginner's Guide & Tips Destiny 2 Guide
Last update: 24 March 2021
In this chapter of the Destiny 2 game guide you will find a lot of general tips that can be useful during gameplay, speed up your account development and help you get acquainted with some of the additional mechanics available in the game.
Destiny 2 may overwhelm you due to the number of planets available in the game's universe, the type and amount of weaponry, the type of missions, additional activities, and dozens of mechanics that have not been explained good enough. In this chapter, the player will find a handful of general advice that can positively influence character development. The tips are especially addressed to new players who are just beginning their adventure with Destiny 2.
Sensitive points - in Destiny 2, a shot in the head won't always cause the highest damage possible. Headshots are extremely effective against most opponents, such as Cabals or the Fallen. However, while fighting against Vex-type opponents, aim at their glowing points that are located around the torso. If you hit a weak or vulnerable spot of the enemy in Destiny 2 then the game will notify you about it by displaying damage in the form of yellow texts;
- Gear Score - this term determines the overall strength of your character. By acquiring and changing equipment for the better you increase the power factor of the character so you can take part in increasingly difficult activities;
- Character selection - there are 3 Character Classes available in Destiny 2: Hunter, Titan, and Warlock. Due to the fact that you can use subclasses that can be heavily modified on the basis of the standard classes, there are no better or worse characters in this universe. Thus, you can choose your desired class without worrying which one is better;
- Energy shields - some opponents, mostly of the Vex type, have additional energy shields that must first be broken in order to cause damage to the opponent. Regular weapons are not the best solution to break enemy shields, therefore energy weapons should be used against such opponents;
- Vault - items that you want to keep but don't fit in the handy equipment you can hide in the Vault. The Vault can be found, for example, in The Tower or on a Farm. In the Vault you will have several tabs at your disposal in which you can deposit both weapons and armor;
- New weapon - changing your weapon during gameplay to one you haven't used before (e.g. special weapons with green ammunition) will result in reseting the ammo. Before you use it, you'll have to defeat a few opponents, get bullets and reload your weapons;
- Different weapons - in Destiny 2 you can carry 3 weapons with you. Try to create a diverse set to be able to deal with opponents at close and long range. Special weapons such as grenade launchers or rocket launchers are great for tough opponents and bosses. Unfortunately, they suffer from a low supply of ammunition;
- Elementals - Energy and Power weapons can have an additional element (Arc, Void, and Solar) that is effective against an opponent who has an additional shield that can be affected by this particular element. By smashing an Arc-type shield with a weapon of the same element, there is a chance to release additional energy charges causing Area of Effect (AoE) damage;
- Health level - characters in Destiny 2 heal themselves automatically if they do not receive injuries for a few seconds. If your character's health has dropped to a dangerous level and you don't have healing skills, hide behind any of the off-road obstacles and wait a while before you attack again to recover;
- Fast travel - use teleporters to move quickly around the map. On each planet you will find at least a few such points;
- Bounties - these assignments require the player to perform a list of tasks, such as defeating a certain number of opponents with a certain type of weapon or completing a certain event. Huge amounts of experience points are being awarded for performing Bounties, and sometimes even extra items;
- Public events - public events are special cyclical missions that appear on each of the planets featured in Destiny 2. Any player can join a public event at any time - even if the event is already over. For performing this special task you can get rare items, Glimmer, as well as additional materials;
- Strikes - Strikes instances allow players explore specially prepared missions (solo or in a group) for which they can receive attractive rewards - Glimmer, Exotic items and additional crafting materials;
- Dismantling items - in Destiny 2, unnecessary weapons can be disassembled into useful parts. To dismantle an item, simply hover the selection pointer over it, then press and hold the specified button (by default it's the F key);
- Weekly tasks - for performing Weekly tasks, you can gain valuable items that will boost your character's Gear Score. Try to complete all Weekly missions so as not to miss the opportunity to get better equipment.
