Destiny 2: Attack and weapons - combat Destiny 2 Guide

The enemies in Destiny 2 are rather intelligent – don't be surprised if one of them, that was outside of your view, starts approaching you from a side or behind or when they hide behind a cover and wait for you to get closer. Learning the basic combat rules in this game is the key to avoid mistakes and being able to start at a higher level.

In this chapter of our Destiny 2 game guide you can find all the relevant information about combat and weapons - how to fight enemies, how your opponents behave during combat and what you should use during the battles against specific enemy forces.

In Destiny 2 enemies are quite intelligent. For example, don't be surprised if one enemy, that is out of your field of view, suddenly starts to attack you from the side or back. Also, opponents can hide behind cover and wait for you to get closer. Learning the basic rules of combat in this game will allow you to avoid any mistakes. Also, you will be able to start the game faster from a higher level.

How to fight in Destiny 2

In the game you can use various firearms, throw grenades and even use melee attacks. At the same time, you can carry three weapons. Each of this weapon has independent ammo that can be collected from defeated enemies. The first weapon never provides attack type bonuses. This means that they do not have any color icons that provide damage bonuses for a particular type of barrier. In other words, we can call them kinetic weapons, as opposed to other energy weapons. Instead, they have the most easy-to-get and common ammunition (white crates). It's a good idea to equip your character with automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

The second slot represents additional secondary weapon - in this case you will often have a decent supply of ammunition (green ammunition crates), but not that excessive of course - Destiny 2: Attack and weapons - combat - Combat - Destiny 2 Game Guide

The second slot represents additional secondary weapon - in this case you will often have a decent supply of ammunition (green ammunition crates), but not that excessive of course. It is worth using the inversed weapons tactics here, that is, secondary weapons should have different stats and attributes than primary weapons. For example, select a low firing rate and high-precision weapon as a secondary firearm if your primary one uses a lot of ammunition, so that you won't run out of ammo. You can also have a combination of short/long range weapons in appropriate slots.

The third slot is for heavy weapons (purple ammunition crates). Ammunition for these type of weapons is hard to get, as it rarely drops out from defeated enemies, and the maximum capacity of these projectiles is rather is low. In this slot it's worth using, if you have such an option, weapons that inflict very high damage (sniper rifle, fusion rifle, minigun, sword) or area of effect damage (like rocket launcher or grenade launcher).

Additional tips:

  1. If you will use, for example, a heavy gun to inflict damage over a long distance, the weapon may be ineffective. It will inflict less damage than a much weaker weapon that has a scope and is suitable for long-range combat (such as the Scout Rifle);
  2. Enemies do not become weaker or less mobile after receiving heavy damage, so always make sure you finish them off - especially individuals who use long-range weapons and can cause you more problems when they are away from them;
  3. Always try to occupy higher positions than your opponent: it is easier to hide, to spot opponents that are hiding and to aim at opponents heads. Also, it's much harder for them to reach you.

Nothing prevents you from carrying an extra weapon for each of the free slots and adjusting to the opponents you encounter (you can easily change your weapon by opening the inventory even during combat, after hiding behind any sort of cover). You can carry nine guns at a time in case of each slot, which is 27 in total. If you have reached the limit, you will have to dismount something (in the inventory screen, by pressing the indicated key after selecting the item of equipment).

Precision kills

After completed missions and matches, you may encounter the term Precision kills as a component of Statistics. It refers to the number of kills made with a precise shot in vulnerable spots, mainly headshots or, in case of some enemy creatures, robots and bosses, the specific parts of their bodies or armors, such as fuel tanks, cameras, or glowing crystals etc. Over time, you'll be able to identify which enemies should be attacked in vulnerable spots and how effective that may be. You will know that you have hit a vulnerable spot when the number shown next to the enemy after the shot (indicating the amount of damage dealt) is yellow instead of white.

Quite often you can get additional damage bonuses or increased regeneration rates / decreased skill cooldowns for performing successful precision shots or kills. - Destiny 2: Attack and weapons - combat - Combat - Destiny 2 Game Guide
