Types of Challenges and rewards in Anthem Anthem Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 11 March 2019

You can check the Challenges in your journal. They are divided into several categories. Complete them to receive various rewards - blueprints, crafting materials or coins. Some of the challenges are hidden - we have included all of them in our list.

Path to Glory

They are "Timed challenges". This group is divided into three categories: daily, weekly and monthly challenges. Each of the categories changes after a specific period of time passes. If you don't complete their goals within that time limit, you won't get rewards offered by them. Select a Challenge in your journal to check how much time you have left to complete it.

  1. Daily challenges give you a few basic crafting materials and a bit of coins (500 - 1,000).
  2. Weekly challenges give you more coins (2,000).
  3. Usually, monthly challenges require you to complete a certain number of daily and weekly challenges. Monthly challenges are one of the few methods of getting Masterwork Embers.

Your current loyalty level is displayed in the journal.

There are three factions in the game: Freelancers, Sentinels and Arcanists. Increase your loyalty by completing side missions (contracts), collecting secrets and resources or speaking with NPCs in Fort Tarsis. After reaching a new level (1-3) you get rewards - blueprints and cosmetic items for your Javelin. Higher levels unlock uncommon, rare and epic blueprints. Each faction offers different sets of blueprints:

  • Freelancers: Module blueprints - install them into your Javelin to increase its stats. These modules can be used in any of the Javelins - they increase armor, ammo capacity etc.
  • Arcanists: weapon-oriented Consumables.
  • Sentinels: Consumables that make your Javelin more durable.

You can start getting loyalty rewards after reaching level 10.

Expeditions

These Challenges are related to the game's main story, contracts, Strongholds and Freeplay mode. Complete them to receive coins (usually 2,000).

Only Strongholds (after completing them a specific number of times) can give you additional rewards - Sigil blueprints. Thanks to them, you can craft Consumables that increase elemental damage during and expedition. They are especially useful for the Storm class.

Exploration

You complete these challenges by - finding documents and yellow runes during Freeplay, exploring locations (visit various regions, sub-regions and Overlooks in Freeplay mode). All of these challenges reward you with coins (usually 1,600). You can check these Challenges in your journal - they aren't hidden.

Gear

Masterwork blueprints can only by unlocked at Grandmaster difficulty level. - Types of Challenges and rewards in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide
Masterwork blueprints can only by unlocked at Grandmaster difficulty level.

These challenges are for all Javelin classes - you need to complete missions / World Events with specific gear (abilities). This is the second way of getting Masterwork blueprints - use them to craft new abilities (modules, launchers - this depends on your Javelin's class). Stick with one favorite ability to get even better versions of it. To get a Masterwork blueprint, you need to complete a certain number of missions / World Events on Grandmaster difficulty.

Weapon

The game informs you about unlocking a new challenge. - Types of Challenges and rewards in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide
The game informs you about unlocking a new challenge.

These Challenges work similarly to those related to the gear - the more enemies you kill with a specific weapon (you don't have to use a specific weapon), the higher the challenge's level. You get a weapon blueprint by reaching a specified Challenge level (higher challenge level=better blueprint). To get a Masterwork blueprint, you need to kill a certain number of enemies on Grandmaster difficulty.

Feats

Complete Feats (their description is in the "Feats" chapter) to receive coins. You complete Feats by performing specific activities a few times, e.g. perform a combo "x" times, kill "x" enemies with firearms, abilities or melee attacks etc.

Combat

Defeat specific enemies a certain number of times (e.g. Outlaws, Scars, legendary versions, bosses like Titans etc.). Complete these Challenges to receive coins. Defeat enemies in a specific way to unlock Sigil blueprints, e.g. kill "x" enemies with an Ultimate skill to get a Sigil that improves this type of attack. These Sigils allow you to craft Consumables which you can use later during expeditions.

Javelin

This category only has four rewards which you can get by upgrading your Javelin. The more power you have (the points you see in the Forge - they are displayed in the upper right corner), the higher the level (this also determines your Javelin's rarity - Masterwork level is available at power level 500). Complete one mission per power level to unlock a new reward.

Freelancer

There are three Challenges in total - two are really simple (find 10 chests and artifacts). You should complete them early in the game. Legendary Freelancer Challenge is different - to complete it, you have to complete a series of challenges from various categories, e.g. get Master I challenge for every type of weapon, Gear I Master for every Javelin, and reach Masterwork Javelin power level (500 points).
