Freeplay mode in Anthem Anthem Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 28 February 2019

At any time during your play in Anthem you can break away from the plot take a pause from the story mission to explore the game world by yourself - the Bastion. The map is large and offers many battles, hidden treasures, various secrets, challenges and additional missions.

World events

In some missions you search for items ignoring your opponents - these are by far the fastest tasks to complete. - Freeplay mode in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide
In some missions you search for items ignoring your opponents - these are by far the fastest tasks to complete.

A basic type of freeplay mission, which is rewarded with a lot of experience (400 exp for the first completed mission and 800 exp for the second and subsequent during the session). World events vary in style: defeat certain enemies, collect Echoes or artifacts, or defeat a boss (e.g. Ursix, Titan). They are not marked on the map, but they take place in many locations at the same time: all you need to do is to travel quickly between "districts" and come across them with ease - information about an Event in the world is activated when you are about 200 meters away from the place where it takes place.

Each completed Event is rewarded with a loot chest, usually of high value (although the chance for masterpieces or legendary items is much lower than in the case of Fortifications).

Unlocking locations

Viewpoint to unlock.

Each of the locations in the Bastion (areas separated by lines) has different smaller regions and zones. All you need to do is visit them (the top centre of the screen will show the inscription of the region you are in when you enter it) and you'll be guaranteed to unlock the exploration challenges - each fully explored area is an additional 800 coins. To complete the Challenges, you also need to find a viewing point, which is later marked on the map with binoculars. Viewpoints are often located in high areas as small, bright-light domes with which you need to interact with.

Gaining experience

Freeplay is a weak way to gain experience, missions/contracts and Strongholds will work better. You will gain the most experience by performing world events and the highest levels in Feats, which you can easily monitor and perform those you have not yet unlocked in this session.

Obtaining loot

In freeplay, youll find lots of items from both dead enemies and chests that are hidden in the world - Freeplay mode in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

In freeplay, you'll find lots of items from both dead enemies and chests that are hidden in the world. These chests always appear in specific locations - so if you encounter one, it's worth remembering this place and returning to it later / in the next session of the game. They usually contain quite average items, but dismantling them will be a quick way to get a large amount of craftsmanship material.

You can also find craft items in plants, rocks and scrap piles all over the Bastion - Freeplay mode in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

You can also find craft items in plants, rocks and scrap piles all over the Bastion. This is the best way to quickly obtain large quantities of materials.

Secrets

In freeplay youll find two types of secrets: misplaced writings and runes - Freeplay mode in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

In freeplay you'll find two types of secrets: misplaced writings and runes. Documents, apart from fixed locations, can often be found at scar military bases. They can have a form of books, scraps of paper or small electronic devices. Most of them - just like chests - reappear in the same locations, but with different content, allowing you to complete the Challenges associated with them faster (Challenges->Exploration).

Yellow runes, which you will find on the walls in the whole bastion are one-time secrets, so collecting them is much more difficult - Freeplay mode in Anthem - Basics - Anthem Guide

Yellow runes, which you will find on the walls in the whole bastion are "one-time" secrets, so collecting them is much more difficult. You will receive 800 / 1600 coins for your exploration and collection challenges.
