Starting the quest and general information
Meet with Faye in Fort Tarsis. You learn that you need to unlock access to four Tombs of the Legionnaires. Here is how this works:
- You have to examine four tombs - Tomb of Artinia, Tomb of Cariff, Tomb of Gawnes, and Tomb of Yvenia. Each of the tombs is locked.
- The only way to unlock them is to complete their Trials. These trials consist of three or four groups of challenges. You can check them in your journal. Open the Challenges menu, go to the Expeditions tab and then to Freeplay (see the picture above).
- The game recommends doing these Trials in the Freeplay mode, but you don't have to limit yourself to only that mode. Trials can be completed in any mode, including Agent Missions or Strongholds.
- You don't have to complete the Trials in a specific order. You also don't have to complete all related challenges. The game keeps track of your progress, e.g. number of kills required for one of the challenges. If you fulfill only a part of a given challenge and then end the expedition, you won't have to start doing that challenge all over again.
- After completing any of the four Trials, you will receive 2,000 coins.
Below you can find our tips on how to complete each of the Trials. They are listed in the alphabetical order, but you can do them in any order you want.
Trial of Artinia
1) Complete 5 events. Go to the Freeplay mode - this is the only way to access World Events. They appear randomly and can, e.g. require you to eliminate bandits or help Sentinels. You can complete these challenges alone or in a group (it will be easier for you). After completing an even, the game will display the information presented in the picture above.
2) Defeat 30 enemies with a firearm. A very simple challenge. You can use any weapon. Try to attack weaker enemies - thanks to that you shouldn't have problems with completing this challenge.
3) Defeat 15 enemies by hitting their weak spots. This challenge is easier than you think. Aim at heads or other revealed body parts. As for stronger enemies, you can receive radio tips on where you can find weak spots on their bodies.
4) Defeat 9 elite enemies. You can recognize them by having Elite in their name and a skull icon above their head - the picture above shows an example. Elite enemies are found in every mode, e.g. during the Freeplay. Use all your abilities (including Ultimate ability) to eliminate them faster.
Trial of Cariff
1) Complete 3 missions. World Events don't count. You need to complete missions available in the expedition window (see the picture above). You can complete Agent Missions, contracts or mission taking place in a Stronghold. Alternatively, use the Quickplay mode to replay a story mission.
2) Defeat 30 enemies using Javelin's equipment (abilities). A very simple challenge. Keep using offensive abilities. Don't use firearms - kills done with them won't count here.
3) Perform 15 combos. The topic of combos is discussed broadly on How to perform a combo? page. Combos are performed by chaining to abilities - one that weakens an enemy or inflicts a status (e.g. burning or freezing) and the other that will lead to a combo. The COMBO! text informs you that the two abilities used by you were chained correctly (see the picture above).
4) Perform 3 multi-kills. Multi-kills are attacks that killed a few enemies at the same time. The best way to complete this challenge is to use Ultimate skills. When the Ultimate bar is fully charged (the long bar in the bottom right corner of the screen), wait until you are near a group of enemies. Next, activate the ability and use it to damage as many enemies as possible.
Trial of Gawnes
1) Defeat 50 enemies using melee attacks. This challenge isn't difficult. Choose weakest enemies - some of them may die from a single melee attack. As for stronger enemies, deplete their health bar to a certain level or weaken them (e.g. by freezing like in the picture above) before you finish these enemies with a melee attack.
2) Defeat 50 enemies using an Ultimate skill. Ultimate skill is the most powerful ability of your Javelin. Every Javelin has a default Ultimate. These skills have the longest cooldown. Instead of attacking powerful bosses or single elite enemies, you should look for groups of weaker enemies.
3) Defeat 3 legendary enemies. You can face legendary enemies during missions or in the Freeplay mode. You can recognize these enemies by having Legendary in their name and by the skull icon above their head - see the picture above. Use all your abilities (including Ultimate ability) to eliminate them faster.
Trial of Yvenia
1) Open 15 treasure chests. One of the more problematic challenges related to the Tombs of the Legionnaires. Treasure chests appear less frequently than loot dropped by defeated enemies (this loot doesn't count).
Here are some tips on how to complete this challenge:
You can find them mainly in the Freeplay mode, e.g. in small camps or certain locations occupied by the enemies. However, this method is rather troublesome since there aren't many chests on the map.
You have good chances of finding chests in the locations marked with a gate icon (see the picture above). Examine these "dungeons" carefully - you should find at least one chest.
Another good method of finding chests is to complete World Events available in the Freeplay mode. After completing each one of them, the game should spawn a treasure chest near the battlefield. The game counts this chest as open only for the player who opened it. If you play in a team, be the one who opens the chest. If someone else did it, the game doesn't count this chest for your challenge (even when you were close to the player who opened it).
You can also complete contracts, Agent Missions, and Stronghold mission. Depending on the type of the quest, treasure chests can spawn after that quest is complete or after a larger battle. Remember, if you play with others, you must be the one who opens the chest.
2) Collect 25 resources. The easiest challenge of this trial. The world is full of various plants. Hold the interaction button near a plant to collect materials.
3) Repair 3 Javelins. The easiest way to complete this challenge is to start a Stronghold mission or other difficult quest. You have to play with others. Also, your teammates should be weak enough to get defeated in a battle rather fast. Approach a damaged Javelin and hold the right button to repair it (see the picture above).
Alternatively, you can participate in a mission or an event where you are accompanied by Javelins controlled by the AI. Repairing AI-controlled Javelins counts, too. You don't have to repair only Javelins controlled by other players.
4) Find 10 collectibles. This challenge isn't difficult - the world has a lot of collectibles. You can find them in the Freeplay mode. These secrets can have a form of, e.g. notes (picture 1) or interactive ruins (picture 2). Just like with treasure chests, go to enemy camps, bases or visit dungeons.
Vantage points, places marked with binoculars icon, don't count as secrets.
Explore the Tombs of the Legionnaires
You can explore the Tombs only after you complete a related Trial (all challenges from that category).
You need to go into the Freeplay mode. All the Tombs are marked on the map. Approach the entrance and interact with the door. The game will now check whether you have completed the required Trial. If that Trial is complete, the game will load a separate location.
Every Tomb has the same interior - you will find an interactive sarcophagus. Interact with it to receive random loot.
After examining all four Tombs, go back to Fort Tarsis and meet with Faye.
