On this page of the guide to Horizon 2 Forbidden West you'll find a walkthrough of The Eye of the Earth main quest. Our walkthrough explains how to explore to outpost, how to reach the console room, how to activate GAIA and what awaits you in the Base.

- Unlocking the Base - it will become your new hideout. Inside the Base Aloy can initiate numerous conversations (related to the main story and side activities) and use various additional rooms.
- Unlocking The Broken Sky main quest
- Unlocking The Sea of Sands main quest
- Unlocking the Seeds of the Past main quest
- Access to the western area of the world map - the game will let you travel to new areas previously blocked by mountains
Note - You can complete the three newly unlocked quests in any order, but The Broken Sky has the lowest recommended level.
Enter the facility
This quest starts in the same location as The Dying Lands main quest, that is, inside TAU Cauldron. You can't immediately start freely exploring the world again, but this quest fortunately doesn't contain combat and is more story-driven.
Use the new passageway that opened in the hall you previously had a boss fight in. When you try to open the door you'll learn that the facility entered emergency mode and is preventing you from progressing further.
Climb the elevator shaft
Approach the elevator door and hold down R2 to force it open. Locate some interactive ledges inside the shaft with your focus and start climbing. You must reach the next door and force it open as well.
Search the facility for MINERVA
With your scanner locate the interactive ventilation duct grate. Rip it out with the Pullcaster and enter the shaft.
Keep climbing up and soon enough you'll reach the surface.
You must go through some snowy rock ledges. Keep scanning the area and locating interactive ledges and handles you can jump towards and hold on to.
In one area you'll need to use the Shieldwing and glide to a lower ledge. You'll find more interactive ledges next to it which will let you start climbing again.
You must reach the boulders blocking the passage. Position yourself next to them until an interaction option appears, then hold R2 to open the way forward. You'll return to the facility.
Examine the console
Move along the balconies until you reach a place Aloy will be able to slide down the rope at.
You'll find yourself in a spherical hall with an inactive console. Put the GAIA Kernel in the slot. You will unlock The Base which will serve as a hideout for you and the newly activated GAIA.
Go to the lab
After your first conversation with GAIA head towards the lab - one of the rooms on the Base's main floor. Here you can examine the Fabrication Terminal which lets you unlock overrides for new machines. Unfortunately you can only do so if you have the required ingredients, but you can freely return to this location later on.
Return to the control room
Further exploration of the Base is optional and you must know that many of its rooms and features aren't available yet. We've described this hideout in more detail on the Base page of our guide.
To complete the quest return to the GAIA hall. There you'll learn about what you must do next. You can have a very long conversation with GAIA if you select all the optional dialogue choices. The meeting can also end way sooner.
You'll unlock three new main quests. You can choose one during the conversation with GAIA:
- AETHER- This is The Broken Sky main quest with a recommended level of 17.
- POSEIDON- This is The Sea of Sands main quest with a recommended level of 22.
- DEMETER - This is the Seeds of the Past main quest with a recommended level of 24.
The choice is purely symbolic as you can freely change the order of the quests in your journal after the meeting with GAIA and postpone them.
Exit the Base through the west door
After deciding you've spent enough time in the Base, head for the west door the game marked for you. You'll arrive at the new area of the world map which you can now freely explore (and head for the locations related to the newly unlocked main quests).
