Last update: 13 June 2024

This page of the Horizon 2 Forbidden West game guide explains how to change Aloy's appearance. We have described three different methods, which include putting on different Outfits, using Outfit Dyes and Face Paints.

Outfits

There are dozens of different outfits available in Horizon Forbidden West - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

There are dozens of different outfits available in Horizon Forbidden West. Most of them can be purchased from traders, although some outfits can be received as rewards for completing specific quests and optional activities.

These outfits can radically change Aloy's appearance. They consist of various types of leather, armor pieces, ornaments or additional headgear. As a bonus, your current outfit is also displayed in cut-scenes, as opposed to just while traversing the game world.

When it comes to outfits, you need to keep one very important factor in mind - each outfit suits a particular playstyle and has certain stats. For example, the hunter outfit grants bonuses to ranged attacks and the warrior outfit increases your melee combat stats. You should prioritize the quality and purpose of the outfit over its appearance. You can change your clothes at any time by simply opening the corresponding tab in your inventory. If you like a particular outfit's appearance, but find it impractical, you can simply swap it out during difficult battles and return to using your preferred gear while you explore the game world.

Outfit Dyes

Outfit dyes are items that allow you to change the colors of the main character's outfits - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

Outfit dyes are items that allow you to change the colors of the main character's outfits.

You can unlock certain dye designs as rewards for completing selected quests and side activities. You can find this information in the section dedicated to quest rewards.

You can't modify Aloy's outfit in the inventory screen - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

You can't modify Aloy's outfit in the inventory screen. You need to take care of two things:

The first matter is to collect the blooms that are used to make the dyes. In general, try to pick all the flowers you find, especially those located in harder to reach locations, such as tall rock ledges (some of them can be picked while climbing). Blooms required for dyes are stored in a separate section in the inventory (pictured above).

The second requirement is to visit the dyer, an NPC who can apply the dyes for you - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

The second requirement is to visit the dyer, an NPC who can apply the dyes for you. One of these characters is Gana, who can be found in the Plainsong settlement, which you will visit during the main storyline.

Once the dye ordering window pops up, you need to select one of the outfits you have in your inventory - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

Once the dye ordering window pops up, you need to select one of the outfits you have in your inventory. Then, you will be able to see which dyes can be used on it. You have to purchase each of them and, in addition to paying a small amount of metal shards, you need to provide the required blooms.

Face Paints

Face paints are items that allow you to paint Aloy's face - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

Face paints are items that allow you to paint Aloy's face. These can range from small patterns and single lines to whole face paintings that radically change the look of the character.

As in the case of dyes, you can obtain new face paints as rewards for completing particular quests and side activities. You will receive a notification when you obtain a new face paint for completing a given quest.

Aloy can't apply face paints by herself, so they are initially useless - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

Aloy can't apply face paints by herself, so they are initially useless. You need to visit one of the Painters to solve this problem. These characters include Zokkah, who is located in the Scalding Spear camp in the central part of the map.

When you open the face paints window, you can browse the available face paints based on the ones you have unlocked - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

When you open the face paints window, you can browse the available face paints based on the ones you have unlocked. You need to pay a small fee of metal shards each time you want to paint Aloy's face.

Additional information - You can also preview the available face paints in photo mode - Horizon Forbidden West: How to change Aloys appearance? - Character and statistics - Horizon Forbidden West Guide

Additional information - You can also preview the available face paints in photo mode. One of the photo mode settings allows you to swap the type of face paint. The selected pattern will, of course, in this case, disappear from Aloy's face upon turning off photo mode and resuming the actual gameplay.
