Location of hunting grounds in the Daunt region
The recommended level for this activity is 5.
Hunting grounds are located east of the Barren Light location and south of the Chainscrape village.
When you get there, first talk to Thurlis, who can explain to you the basics of the hunting challenge. Thurlis is also a trader - you can buy ranged weapons from him.
Then talk to the Grounds Keeper. He will give you the Warrior Bow for free, which can come in handy when completing challenges. In addition, you can also talk to him to check the available challenges. There are 3 trials available, with each one letting you get 3 kinds of Stripes.
Challenge 1 - Tear Trial
This trial involves ripping Power Cells off of the Scroungers. To earn the highest Stripe, you must obtain 2 Power Cells in less than 1 minute and 30 seconds.
We recommend referring to the Scrounger page in the Machine Catalogue. The Power Cells are located in the machine's back (above image).
The plan is pretty simple - sneak up on the Scroungers so you can easily target their cells. Try to make a few quick shots with the bow to deal tear damage.
You don't have to kill a Scrounger that has lost its Power Cell. You can focus solely on quickly picking up Power Cells from the ground and then moving away from your opponents. Do the same with the second Scrounger.
After obtaining both Power Cells, immediately retreat towards the hill where the hunters are staying. This will allow you to lose the chase without having to defeat the machines.
Challenge 2 - Shock Trial
This trial involves electrocuting machines near the Scrounger by causing a Power Cell Overload with Shock Ammo. To get the highest Stripe, you have to shock 3 machines in less than 3 minutes.
The Warrior Bow, the one you received during the first conversation with the Keeper, can help you here. By default, this weapon fires uses shock ammo. You may also use any other weapon that can shock targets.
From the previous trial, you should remember that the Scroungers have Power Cells in the back. If you are using the Warrior Bow, you should get closer to these machines, as this weapon has a small effective range.
A Power Cell hit with shock ammo doesn't get overloaded immediately - you need to wait a few seconds. Wait for other machines to get closer to a Scrounger.
Upon explosion, a cell will shock all machines in the area. Try to hit 1-2 machines with this attack, so that you don't run out of Scroungers to attack and finish the trial within the time limit.
Challenge 3 - Shock and Trap Trial
This trial involves using environmental traps to destroy machines. However, only machines in a Shocked State count. To get the highest Stripe, you have to destroy 3 Shocked machines in less than 3 minutes.
During this trial, you can use the Warrior Bow or, alternatively, use the Tripcaster with shock ammo. You can obtain and test this type of weapon while completing the To the Brink main quest.
There are two types of environmental traps in this trial:
- Hanging charges (example in picture 1) - you must hit the clip
- Logs (example on picture 2) - you must hit the target or one of the supports
Always start near a trap. Prepare a rope trap with the Tripcaster or start firing at machines with the Warrior Bow. Ultimately, you must get them into a shocked state - make them temporarily immobilized.
Quickly shoot at a trap to damage the shocked machine. If the trap destroys that machine before it loses the shocked state, the elimination will be counted. Repeat this with two more machines (if you're lucky in getting a few machines in the shocked state, you may be able to eliminate a few of them in a single action).
