You will automatically obtain the task after passing the companion quest called Talk to Fenris (and the previous one called Bitter Medicine) and it doesn't depend on the fact whether you choose to meet Fenris's sister or have some doubts about it. Take Fenris to an active team and during the day follow him to the localization [Lowtown - The Hanged Man]. After reaching your destination the game will automatically put on a scene presenting a meeting with Varania #1 (M15, 7). Unfortunately it will turn out that it is a trap, because Danarius #2, will also appear in the inn - he is the person Fernis was hunting for after running away free.

Step 2: A conversation with Danarius

Now there is a difficult choice ahead of you - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide

Now there is a difficult choice ahead of you. There are four possible options:

  • Giving Fenris to Darius (left bottom dialogue option and then right bottom dialogue option) #1. It is the most extreme option which will lead to the end of this quest and Fenris will leave the team. On the other hand, Darius will give you 5 Sovereigns. Moreover, it is worth to read the message he left you by the desk in Hawke Estate.
  • Stating clearly that Fenris is no longer Danarius's slave (right upper dialogue option): +10 friendship points with Fenris.
  • An attempt to negotiate with Danarius (right middle dialogue option): +10 rivalry points with Fenris.
  • Attacking Danarius' people without further talks (right bottom dialogue option).

Generally speaking, choose any of three bottom dialogue options. As a result, a fight in the inn will start #2.

Step 3: Defeating Danarius and his people

As it has been already stated, the fight will take place if you dont allow to give Fenris to the magister - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide

As it has been already stated, the fight will take place if you don't allow to give Fenris to the magister. At the beginning Danarius will not fight, so start attacking Slavers #1. Unfortunately new hunters will soon join the fight and they may appear at the entrance to the inn or by the stairs where Danarius is situated #2.

Danarius will join the fight when you reach the third stage of the battle, and you may expect the help of Shades, corpses and Skeleton Archers #1 - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide

Danarius will join the fight when you reach the third stage of the battle, and you may expect the help of Shades, corpses and Skeleton Archers #1. Get rid of some living dead and then start attacking the magister himself #2.

6 - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide
Unfortunately, you can expect Darius to surround himself with a protective barrier #1 and in such situations it is worth neutralizing the dead nearby - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide

Unfortunately, you can expect Darius to surround himself with a protective barrier #1 and in such situations it is worth neutralizing the dead nearby. However, you should know, the battle will end when you kill Danarius #2, even if there are still some monsters in the room.

Step 4: Making decision about Varania

7 - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide
At the end of this quest, the game will present a new scene with Fenris and his sister Varania - Alone - Act III - Dragon Age II Game Guide

At the end of this quest, the game will present a new scene with Fenris and his sister Varania. There are three possible options here #1:

  • You can ask Fenris not to kill sister (right upper dialogue option): This option will lead to letting Variania free and obtaining 10 rivalry points with Fenris.
  • Allowing Fenris to make the decision (right middle dialogue option): Elf will kill his sister in such situation #2, and you will gain 10 friendship points with Fenris.
  • You can encourage Fenris to kill his sister (right bottom dialogue option): Also this option will end up with Varania's death, and you will obtain 15 friendship points with Fenris.

Use this option to deal with two topics. Mentioning the topic of unfair accusation of wizards during the conversation with Fenris will decrease the point situation (rivalry points) with this character. No matter how you behave you will obtain a very valuable Cuirass of the Centurion.
