How to start a raid?
Guardian Raids become available when you reach at least item level 302 (ilvl) - these are the conditions before the first boss fight.
To start the Guardian Raid, you need to find a bulletin board in a major city (red marker on the map). There, you can chose a boss and find team members. You can fight alone or in a party (your own or by Matchmaking).
You can participate in Guardian Raid until you collect two souls from the bosses per day. When you get the souls, you will not receive rewards for fighting. Missing the challenge on a given day, you increase the Rest Bonus, which allows you to earn greater rewards. However, they will be of a lesser value than joining the event each day.
How to prepare?
Before entering the battle, it is a good idea to read the information about the boss. The main rules that apply to each boss are:
- Time limit - 20 minutes,
- 3 resurrections limit upon death (for all players combined),
- Unable to use healing pressing F1 key.
However, this doesn't mean you can't heal yourself- assign healing potions to the other positions (1-4) and use them during combat.
Each boss has certain weaknesses - using skills/items with the indicated element increases the damage by 10%. You can find out about them by hovering over a small icon below the View Map Info button. The first boss - Guardian - is weak against water. Check out if you have such skills or spells (don't forget about grenades - in this case, Frost Grenade). It is a good idea to modify your skill set and upgrades before fighting a given boss. Pay attention to upgrades and skill types - you will be focusing on the main target during the fight, so you won't need upgrades that deal damage to lesser enemies or those with a large AoE. Of course, you should also try to customize your equipment, upgrade it or use runes.
It's also a good idea to use Dishes before a fight - their effect lasts for 20 minutes. You can buy them in the market, craft them in the Stronghold, but they are also available from Wandering Merchants for silver. Their effect is limited, so they should be consumed directly before combat. Another way to prepare is to have a Feast in the Stronghold (however, this requires having a Chef, which becomes available after reaching level 10 of the Stronghold - then you will receive a tutorial on how to hold a Feast).
It is useful to learn about using various household items. Most of them you can receive as rewards in missions, buy on the market or produce in the Stronghold. Many can significantly change the course of a battle by increasing your or your allies effectiveness.
Also, Flares) will be very useful. They allow you to locate the boss in the arena to save time searching for it. Assign them to the quick access bar before joining Raid - this will not be possible once the game starts. You can craft flares in the Stronghold or purchase them at the Marketplace (Alt Y).
What does the gameplay look like?
Once the match begins, you appear in the arena. You choose the direction in which you will go looking for the boss. To determine its position, you can use flares. After that, the fight will begin - from the beginning, watch the boss's behavior and try to learn his attacks. During Boss Raid, the boss's health bar is not visible.
It's often a good idea to stay behind the bosses' backs - most of them launch frontal attacks. Often the boss will take one hero as its target - it's a good idea to help the team by acting as a decoy and focus on dodging.
Nevertheless, each boss is unique and has its traits and attacks. Some of them even have wipe skills that can instantly kill everyone in range. When fighting higher level bosses, it's a good idea to read the strategy tips.
Cancelling the Raid
If the fight goes wrong or one of the players is not responding, you can end the Raid by voting using the button on the left. Leaving the arena is a result of the voting. If you choose to leave the game on your own, you will receive a penalty for some time to join Raids. Also, if you die and the rest of the team defeats the boss, you will be resurrected and get the rewards.
Rewards for Guardian Raid
After the battle, don't forget to collect the souls that contain the loot - you can leave the location without collecting any rewards! In the souls, there are also rewards for defeating the boss. They include:
- Accessories,
- Honing Materials,
- Ability Stone,
- Defeated boss card,
- Engraving Recipe,
- Galewind Rune (and always Galewind - on higher levels, it will be of a higher class).
The rewards from Guardian Raid aren't the most valuable compared to other activities, but the challenges can be quickly completed if you know how to fight a particular boss.
