After preparing the soil in Farming Simulator 25, you will have to sow or plant the crops of your choice. However, many plants require exclusive equipment and are only compatible with specific tools. On this guide page you will learn how to use seeders and planters.

What are seeders and planters used for?

Seeders and planters work the same way - they allow compatible seeds or saplings to be distributed across the field. However, different types of plants require different machines - you can learn which plants go with which machine under its description in the shop tab. They are presented in the form of small icons. Regular seeders allow you to sow all grains, peas, spinach and radish. Regular planters, on the other hand, can handle corn, sunflowers or cotton.

Some plants require entirely exclusive machinery. These are, for example, potatoes, which can only be planted with dedicated potato planters. Before purchasing a machine, pay attention to the icons below its description, which will tell you which plants it is compatible with. If you are not sure what a certain icon means, you can find their explanations in the first tab of the map.

How to load the machine and sow the field?

Before you get to sowing/planting, you need to fill up the machine attached to your tractor. To do this, buy seeds or saplings in the store and drive up to them from behind. When the machine is next to the pallet, container or bag, press the filling button (R by default). The machine will automatically be filled with seeds or saplings.

It is worth mentioning here that the seeds you buy are kind of Schrodinger seeds - they are seeds of every possible plant until you sow them. Apart from special plants that require a dedicated machine, you will only find one universal type of seeds in stores. In the bottom right corner of the screen, above the seeder capacity bar, there is an icon showing which plants you will start sowing after starting the machine. You can change this icon (and thus: the plants sown) by pressing the Y button. This means that if you fill the entire field, you can immediately go to the next field and sow a different plant there without changing the seeds inside the seeder. Planters and universal saplings work the same way.

Once you load the machine and take it with a tractor to a plowed or cultivated field, you will be able to start sowing/planting. Set up the seeder/planter, start it, lower it and pull it behind you around the field until you have covered the desired area. Besides, pay attention to the description of the machine you buy - some seeders and planters allow direct sowing, after which plowing or cultivation is not required.
