Types of chickens and where to buy them
Buying chickens is quite a mundane process. Once you have built a coop (we describe it on a separate page of the guide), you can approach the paw icon next to it. Then you will be able to open a special management panel. Optionally, you can also go to the pet store.
You can acquire either younger or older chickens, or roosters.
- Young chickens lay smaller numbers of eggs and will not breed until they are 4 months old. However, they are cheaper to buy and consume less food. Therefore, when buying a large number of items at once, they are more cost-effective.
- Adult hens will allow you to produce large quantities of eggs immediately. Additionally, they reproduce every two months.
- Roosters are bred for meat. After purchasing, you have to wait until they reach maturity. Then you can sell them at a profit. It's worth noting that you don't need roosters in order for chickens to reproduce.
Feeding
Chickens need only wheat, sorghum or barley. These are cheap and easily accessible plants that you will be growing from the very beginning. Thus, it won't be hard to get them.
Worst case scenario, you can buy a pallet or a bag of wheat at the store. It's not cheap, but chickens don't eat much. So, unless you're breeding them on an industrial scale, a bag will last for a long time.
Once you purchase wheat, where should you unload it? To do it, you need to drive up to the designated place marked with the icon of a tilted trailer.
Is it worth raising chickens?
Chickens are the best choice early into the game. Purchasing animals by itself is not a special financial burden and the maintenance costs are very low. Additionally, they eat the grain that you produce from the very beginning of the game.
This makes it possible for you to generate additional income. You just need to remember to check from time to time to see if they still have food.
Eggs appear on pallets next to the coop. They can be:
- Sold at any of the available sale points. This is the simplest option and not really engaging. It is worth monitoring in which months their prices are highest in order to achieve the greatest profits.
- Used in the production chain. This is an option for more advanced users, as it also requires other resources to create the final product.
Additionally, breeding chickens can also bring profits. You can also earn a little money by selling young chickens and roosters.
