Poplars are trees in Farming Simulator 25 that require a different approach when growing them. Unlike other trees, poplars are cultivated very similarly to regular field plants. Therefore, growing them is the simplest way to obtain wood logs. On this page of the guide we have described how to grow poplars and what machines you will need to do it.

What do I need to grow poplars?

One of the unique features of poplars is that plowing and cultivation are not required. You can plant them anywhere; you don't need a dedicated field for this (although if you want to plant poplars outside the field, you need to activate this option by pressing the Y key on the keyboard while operating the planter). They also grow back after they are harvested and will not wither if you wait too long before doing it. The devices and items required or useful during the cultivation of poplars are the following:

  1. Any tractor - growing poplars does not require an overly powerful tractor.
  2. Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself. The field is already preliminarily limed when you set it up.
  3. Fertilizer device and solid fertilizer (optional) - to maximize yields you need to fertilize a field twice. Use any solid fertilizer and any machine of your choice. If you use slurry or manure, you can do double fertilization - this way you will not have to repeat the process later, between fertilization and harvest.
  4. Tree planter and saplings - planting trees requires a special tree planter. In the basic version of the game, the only planter that supports poplars is the PL-75 planter that can be attached to the tractor. You can buy poplar saplings in the store.
  5. Poplar baler with a bumper or forage harvester with a header and trailer - there are two ways to collect poplar chips. A cheaper way is to equip a special poplar baler with a bumper and attach it to the tractor. It'll create bales of wooden chips and then spit them out once the device fills up. After that, you will have to pick up the bales. The more expensive option is to purchase a forage harvester with a poplar header attached and a trailer. The harvester will spit out wood chips directly into the trailer at the back.

Periodic calendar and sales

Poplars can be planted from March to August and harvested in any month. Wood chips are the only raw material obtained from poplars. They are most valuable in January: you will sell them then for about 1,600 euros per ton. Poplars are grown for sale only; unlike regular wood, poplar wood chips cannot be used to produce more valuable items.
