Farming Simulator 25: How to make silage?
Silage is a specific but necessary product on your farm. On this page of the guide we explain how and when to make silage, what to do with it and what machinery you will need for it.
Last update:
Silage is a resource in Farming Simulator 25 manufactured for specific purposes. Producing it is not always profitable. On this page of the guide we will explain when to start its production, why produce silage at all and what tools you will need to do it.
What is silage actually used for?
Silage can be used in two ways: as feed for cows and as a source of additional income. When it comes to feed, silage can be an independent type of food or an ingredient of mixed feed.
Silage can also be sold at a biogas plant. Of course, you will receive money for this. However, if the building belongs to you, you will receive digestate and methane in exchange for silage. Additionally, you will generate electricity, which will allow you to charge electrical devices. Silage production is therefore profitable if you breed cows or have your own biogas plant.
How to make silage?
The game allows you to obtain silage in two ways: by wrapping bales of grass and by placing grass (or hay) in special feed silos (take a look at the separate guide pages about grass and hay).
Bale wrapping is a method that will not require any additional facility on your farm. On the other hand though, you will need more equipment for fieldwork. So how does the whole process go?
First, you need to mow the grass using a lawnmower. Next, using a baler, you need to compress everything into bales, which you will then wrap in foil. This can be done in two ways:
- More expensive round balers have built-in wrappers. As a result, you can do both these things at once.
- You can also purchase separate wrappers. However, you need to make sure that they support the necessary shape of bales.
So in the end, all you have to do is wait for the grass to turn into silage.
The second method of obtaining silage is through heaps. You will need to set up a feed silo on the farm. Once it's done, you'll need to deliver loose grass or hay collected with the help of a forage wagon to the silo.
Once its content is fully compressed, cover it and wait until the whole process is finished. You can learn about the progress by checking the window in the upper left corner. Once it's finished, you can collect everything using a forage wagon.
