Grains are the cheapest and easiest crops to grow in Farming Simulator 25, which you will deal with throughout the entire game. The game contains six types of grains: wheat, barley, oats, canola, sorghum, and soybeans. On this page of the guide we have described how to grow grains, what machines you will need and when you can grow every type of grains.

What do you need for growing grains?

The devices that are either required for or are simply useful when growing grains are the following:

  1. Any tractor - since grains are the basic crops in the game, even the smallest tractors can handle them.
  2. Mulcher (optional) - if you have grown grain in the field already, it is worth mulching it before cultivation to get rid of the stubble and slightly increase the yield.
  3. Cultivator or harrow - when growing grains, the most optimal method of field preparation is cultivation. Make sure you have a cultivator.
  4. Rollers (optional) - cultivating with a regular cultivator may cause small stones to appear on the field. Getting rid of them will prevent damage to vehicles going forward. Since the stones will be small, you can use rollers to press them into the ground, thereby slightly increasing your yields. Shallow cultivators and harrows do not leave stones behind.
  5. Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself.
  6. Fertilizer device and solid fertilizer (optional) - to maximize yields you need to fertilize a field twice. Each fertilizer requires a different device. If you use slurry or manure, you can do double fertilization - this way you will not have to repeat the process later, between fertilization and harvest.
  7. Seeder or planter and seeds - depending on the grain you choose, the sowing/planting process will require a different machine. Wheat, barley, oats and canola require a universal seeder, while sorghum and soybeans require a universal planter.
  8. Weeder, hoe or sprayer (optional) - after cultivating, weeds will start to grow in the field. Get rid of them as soon as possible, preferably within a month after sowing grains. Depending on the size of the weeds, you will need to use a weeder, a hoe or a sprayer. Regular cultivators cause fewer weeds than other methods.
  9. A harvester with a grain header - to harvest, you will need a harvester with a grain header attached.
  10. Trailer - in case the harvested grain fills up your harvester, you should purchase one or more trailers on which you can load the crops and take them to the silo.

Differences between grains

All available grains differ from each other only slightly, although the most important difference is their sowing time. If you play with the crop calendar turned on, you will be able to sow certain grains only in specific months. Almost all grains become more profitable when processed in factories into flour or oil, which can be turned into more valuable products such as bread, cakes and potato chips.

  1. Wheat - it can be sown in September and October and harvested in July and August. Cutting wheat produces straw. It can be processed into flour in a grain mill and used to feed chickens and pigs. It's comparable to barley, but it grows a month longer and is worth a bit more.
  2. Barley - it can be sown in September and October and harvested in June and July. Harvesting barley produces straw. It can be ground into flour in a grain mill and used to feed chickens and pigs. It's comparable to wheat, but it grows a month shorter and you get a bit more of it during harvest.
  3. Oats - it can be sown in March and April and harvested in July and August. Cutting oats produces straw. It can be processed into flour in a grain mill and used to feed horses. A valuable, fast-growing grain, but the yields are significantly smaller compared to other grains.
  4. Canola - it can be sown in August and September and harvested in July and August. It can be processed into oil in an oil mill and used to feed pigs. It's a profitable grain, the value of which significantly increases after it is processed into oil.
  5. Sorghum - it can be planted in April and May and harvested in August and September. It can be grounded into flour in a grain mill and used to feed chickens, pigs and horses. It's a fast-growing grain suitable for feeding animals.
  6. Soybeans - it can be planted in April and May and harvested in October and November. You can use it to feed pigs. It's a grain that grows pretty quickly. It cannot be processed into other products, but can be sold in its raw form for more than twice as much as other grains.
