Potatoes are a root crop, the cultivation of which requires special preparations and tools. On this page of the guide we have described what equipment you need to grow potatoes and what the cultivation process looks like.

What do you need to grow potatoes?

The machines required or useful for potato cultivation are:

  1. Medium or large tractor - the machines used for optimal potato cultivation are heavy. For this reason, you need a large tractor that is capable of handling it.
  2. Plow, subsoiler or spaders - when growing potatoes, the most optimal method of preparing the field is plowing. So equip yourself with one of the plowing machines, according to your preferences.
  3. Stone picker or rollers (optional) - after plowing, stones will appear on the field. Getting rid of them will prevent damage to vehicles during the next steps. If you used a plow or subsoiler, the stones will be small - get rid of them with a roller. If you used spaders, the stones will be large - get rid of them with a stone picker.
  4. Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself.
  5. Fertilizer device and solid fertilizer (optional) - to maximize yields you need to fertilize a field twice. Each fertilizer requires a different device. If you use slurry or manure, you can do double fertilization - this way you will not have to repeat the process later, between fertilization and harvest.
  6. Potato planter and potatoes - potatoes require their own, dedicated planter, which you must attach to the tractor. Instead of saplings, you will be planting already grown potatoes - you can buy them at the store or save some potatoes from the previous harvest to plant during the next one.
  7. Weeder, hoe or sprayer (optional) - if you have plowed with a subsoiler or spaders, weeds will grow in the field. Get rid of them as soon as possible, preferably within a month of planting the potatoes. Depending on the size of the weeds, you will need to use a weeder, hoe, or sprayer.
  8. Potato harvester - potatoes require their own exclusive harvester, which you can buy in a tractor-mounted or self-propelled version. Although in previous games of the series you had to cut foliage on the field with a dedicated cutter before the harvests, you no longer have to cut foliage, even though it still appears in Farming Simulator 25 - available harvesters collect potatoes even if the field is covered with foliage. Remember not to harvest when it is raining.
  9. Large trailer - potatoes cannot be stored in silos. You have to place them on the ground, keep them in trailers or in buildings, so you can wait for the moment when they will bring you the most profit. Building a belt system will help you load potatoes onto trailers after they have been dumped.

Periodic calendar and sales

If you play with the seasonal calendar turned on, you will be able to plant potatoes in March and April. They can be harvested in August and September. If you're late, the potatoes will dry out.

Potatoes are best sold in December. They are then worth around 765 euros per tonne. After acquiring more funds, you can also build two factories where potatoes can be processed into more valuable items:

  1. Soup factory - here you can process 300 kilograms of potatoes into 75 liters of potato soup. One ton of potato soup is worth approximately 3,730 euros.
  2. Potato processing plant - you can process 100 kilograms of potatoes and 5 liters of sunflower/rapeseed oil or 4 liters of olive oil into 30 kilograms of potato chips. One ton of chips is worth about 4,500 euros.
