Rice is one of the new crops introduced in Farming Simulator 25. Regular rice is not the same as long-grain rice; both are handled differently. Long-grain rice requires a special field and dedicated equipment, resulting in a more difficult growing process but more valuable harvests. On this page of the guide we describe how to grow rice and what you need to do it.

What do you need to grow rice?

The devices and items required or useful when growing rice are the following:

  1. Rice field - rice can only be grown on special fields deepened for water retention. If you don't find fields like that on the map by default, you will have to create them yourself on a flat seedbed; you will find them in the building menu. A water pump automatically appears at each rice field. Before you continue, you need to start the pump to flood the field with water. Every now and then you will need to reactivate the pump to provide moisture to the soil. Thus, regularly check the pump, preferably daily or monthly. If the field needs more water, the game will let you know about it after interacting with the pump.
  2. Any tractor - growing rice does not require a very powerful tractor. Most of the required machines are self-propelled.
  3. Cultivator or harrow (after first harvest) - when growing rice, you do not have to cultivate immediately. After creating a new field, it is immediately ready for the first sowing. After your first harvests, however, you will have to start removing the remnants of rice from the field before you can cultivate again. You will do this by cultivation - after it is finished, you can pump water onto the field again.
  4. Rollers (optional) - after cultivation with a regular cultivator, small stones will appear in the field. Getting rid of them will prevent damage to vehicles going forward. The stones will be small, so you can use rollers to press them into the ground and slightly increase the harvest. If this is your first cultivation on this field or if you have used a shallow cultivator/harrow, you can skip this step.
  5. Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself. The field is already preliminarily limed when you set it up.
  6. Regular rice planter, rice saplings and artificial fertilizer - sowing rice requires a special, self-propelled planter, which you can buy in the store. You can also buy saplings or grow them by building a greenhouse for saplings and providing it with access to water (e.g. through a water tank or a water tower). It is worth mentioning here that the only rice planter available in the basic version of the game also has a fertilizing function. Fill it with saplings and artificial solid fertilizer and you will be able to simultaneously sow rice and perform the first fertilization.
  7. Fertilizer device and fertilizer (only during the first harvest) - to maximize your yields, you need to perform the fertilization process twice. You have already done the first fertilization though, so you need to do it just one more time. Use any solid fertilizer of your choice. It's worth mentioning here that between crops rice fields only lose one level of fertilizer, not both. This means that after a harvest, the field will still have one level of fertilizer. As a result, fertilizing with a planter will be fully sufficient during each harvest after the first one. If you have already harvested on this field, you can skip this step.
  8. Weeder, hoe or sprayer (after first harvest) - after cultivating the field, weeds will start to grow. Get rid of them as soon as possible, preferably within a month of sowing these plants. Depending on the size of the weeds, you will need to use a weeder, a hoe or a sprayer.
  9. Rice harvester - the only way to harvest rice is with a special, dedicated, self-propelled harvester that can only harvest rice. You will find it in the store, in a separate tab.
  10. Trailer - after harvesting the rice, you will need to empty the harvester. For larger crops, you may need trailers. Rice can be stored in silos.

Periodic calendar and sales

Rice can be planted in April and May and harvested in August and September. It is best sold between July and October. At that time it is worth around 3,400 euros per tonne. You can also process it into many other products that are either worth more or can be used in production chains. For example, you can produce packaged rice in a food processing plant or rice flour in a mill.
