Sunflower and corn are root plants in Farming Simulator 25 that are grown very similarly. On this page of the guide we have described how to grow sunflowers and corn and what machines you need to do it.
What do you need to grow sunflowers and corn?
The devices that are either required for or are simply useful when growing sunflowers and corn are the following:
- Any tractor - sunflowers and corn do not require heavy machinery, so any tractor should be able to handle them.
- Mulcher (optional) - if you have previously grown sunflowers or corn in the field, it is worth mulching before cultivation to get rid of the stubble and slightly increase the yield.
- Cultivator or harrow - when growing sunflowers and corn, the most optimal method of field preparation is cultivation. Make sure you have a cultivator.
- Rollers (optional) - cultivating with a regular cultivator may cause small stones to appear on the field. Getting rid of them will prevent damage to vehicles going forward. Since the stones will be small, you can use rollers to press them into the ground, thereby slightly increasing your yields. Shallow cultivators and harrows do not leave stones behind.
- Spreader and lime (optional) - every third harvest or so you should do lime spreading, which will give you a big bonus to your harvest. Equip yourself with a lime-compatible spreader (limestone icon in the store) and the lime itself.
- Fertilizer device and solid fertilizer (optional) - to maximize yields you need to fertilize a field twice. Each fertilizer requires a different device. If you use slurry or manure, you can do double fertilization - this way you will not have to repeat the process later, between fertilization and harvest.
- Apiaries and beehives (optional) - since sunflowers are flowers, you will receive a harvest bonus if there are beehives or apiaries near the field where you plant them.
- Planter and seeds - planting corn and sunflowers requires a universal planter. Before purchasing one, make sure that the planter you choose is compatible with corn and sunflowers - look at the icons under the device description in the store.
- Weeder, hoe or sprayer (optional) - after cultivating, weeds will start to grow in the field. Get rid of them as soon as possible, preferably within a month of sowing these plants. Depending on the size of the weeds, you will need to use a weeder, a hoe or a sprayer. Regular cultivators cause fewer weeds than other methods.
- A harvester with a header for corn and sunflowers - in order to harvest, you will need a universal harvester with a header for corn and sunflowers - the same header can harvest both of these plants.
- Trailer - in case the harvested crops fill up your harvester, you should purchase one or more trailers, where you can load the crops and transport them to the silo.
Periodic calendar and sales
If you are playing with the seasonal calendar turned on, sunflowers can be planted in March and April. They can be harvested in October and November. The best time to sell sunflowers is in March, as this is when they are worth around 2,400 euros per tonne. You can also process them into sunflower oil in an oil mill, worth 6,400 euros per ton, or use them to feed pigs.
Corn can be planted in April and May and harvested in October and November. It's best to sell it in January - at that time it's worth around 1,500 euros per ton. If you also have access to honey, oats and chocolate/raisins, you can start processing the corn into breakfast cereals in a cereal factory, which can be sold for around 12,000 euros per tonne. Corn can also be used to feed pigs.
