Stones to push | Stone puzzles in The Bard's Tale 4 The Bard's Tale 4 Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 10 May 2019
The stones that you have to push are a type of puzzle in The Bard's Tale IV. Although initially, these aren't difficult, the variations that come later one can be pretty problematic.
Tips
- The first few blocks that you encounter only obstruct the way. Push them once to uncover the path.
- Later on, the puzzle will require pushing the stones onto push tiles. The difficulty is that the stones can jam next to each other. If that happens, play the "The Stone Remembers" song, which you were taught by Crux, on the right sign. The block will return to their initial positions.
- The next challenge of this puzzle is constructing bridges from the blocks. This is done using the levers that allow you to push the stones up, down, left and right.
- The stones can only be pushed on the cobblestone. You cannot push them on the ground.
- The blocks cannot be pushed through walls and other elements of the environment.
- Pushing a stone into a hole will make it fall.
- The blocks can be placed on top of each other.
- Some stones are linked with others and move like mirror reflections.
Puzzle solutions
The Best of Us
In this mission, there are many puzzles of the kind. The solution of the first one is this:
The solution to the second boulder puzzle is this:
The next puzzle of the kind is linked to levers. You move the stones with the levers in all directions:
The solution of the next puzzle is simply playing the Crux' song "The Stone Remembers" in front of this sign:
The Sacred Grove
Here, you can find a different variety of the boulder puzzle. There will be glyphs painted on the stones and pedestals. You have to push the right boulders onto the corresponding pedestals.
The other puzzle is more complex. You have to place six stones onto six pedestals, when the place is the 3x3 size.
The Song of the Maiden
In this quest, you'll encounter boulders that work according to the mirror image. When you push one of them, you will move another with the same glyph.
In some places there are holes in the walls that need to be opened with a lockpick or "Gaufain's Hammer" song. The first puzzle in this task is extremely difficult, but with a single tip you can avoid the constant repetition of the puzzle. You have to make sure that the stones are in the same line. This will ensure that they reach the pedestal at the same time.
In the first puzzle, stones with glyphs resembling the letters "F" and "N" should be placed on the pedestals to the right of the entrance. Stones with a glyph resembling the letter "M" should be placed on the pedestals to the left.
The second riddle is all the easier as the pedestals are near the walls, so it will be difficult to wedge the boulders. Remember that stones with the same glyphs move according to the mirror reflection.
Another puzzle is connected with levers. To solve the puzzle, free the stones from behind the gates and create a way to the other side.
The first boulder should be positioned in such a way to create a path to the button in the middle.
Another such button is on the right. The created path should look like this:
To reach the button that unlocks the last stone, push it leftmost.
At the beginning all stones should be set as shown in the picture:
To get to the other side - stand on the nearest boulder and use the lever to get to the other three. This is the last puzzle of this type in The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep.
