The following page contains the walkthrough of A Snare of Shadows side quest in The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep. The quest contains multiple puzzles from previous missions. The guide describes every puzzle in Mangar's Tower.
The quest starts after the conversation with men on the upper floor of old Hero's Guild. You need to head to Mangar's Tower, located in Duke Kingstone's lair in the ruins below Skara Brae.
Once you are inside, push away the nearby rocks to uncover chests. If you push away one stone, you will notice a gear that should be set like this:
A secret passage will open, behind which you will find another chest. Follow along the corridors until you reach huge doors. Remove the blockade and open them.
You will find a puzzle with stones to push. A new mechanic of this puzzle is the wind, pushing stones upwards if they are placed above it. Stones with the glyphs looking like letters "I" and "N" should be pushed there.
Go up as well and push the stone with the glyph representing the letter "M" not that wind. All there is to do now is to set the stones on the appropriate pedestals on the bottom and top.
Doors above you will open. You will find a rune puzzle there. To solve it, you need to set the runes in such a way that the glyphs will be in the following order: "I", "M" "F" and "I".
Move forward. The runes located to the right of the blood pool should resemble "W", "I", "I" and "M".
Runes on the left side should look like that:
A lever will appear in the center of the pool. Use it to gain a tip concerning the bell puzzle.
To solve the bell puzzle, you need to ring them in the following order: 5, 3, 4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 3, 2 and 1 (5 is the smallest bell, 1 is the largest one). Watch out, as enemies will appear in the area.
Once the enemies are dealt with, go back up and then go down. The corridor will change its appearance.
Go straight Ahead and a boss - Mangar's specter - will appear. He has an armor class equal to 8 and summons spheres that regenerate spell points for him. His attacks cause bleeding. He, however, has only 150 health points - once his armor is broken down, he is easy to take down.
Defeating Mangar's specters ends the A Snare of Shadows side quest in The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep.
