The following page contains the walkthrough for the main quest Hard Times in Skara Brae in The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep. It's the first quest in the game. To complete the task, you'll need to complete a few simple steps.

Talk to Rabbie

Your first objective appears right after the first cut-scene. You'll need to talk to Rabbie, who is located right behind you. The radar in the left upper corner of the screen will show you the exact spot (blue arrow).

Once you talk to Rabbie, he will join your party. You'll learn that he's proficient with axe and shillelagh, and will give potion to allies. He's a fairly standard support character. You'll also get to know your default avatar - Melody the bard. She's also proficient with an axe, albeit of a different type, needs to get drunk to gain her powers, and can perform the mysterious Holy Partiture to protect her allies.

Head for the Adventurer's Guild

Your next job is to reach the Adventurer's Guild. The location is shown on the radar. You'll find it near the place where your conversation with Rabbie took place, on the right. Once you reach it, decide whether to create a custom character (and do it) or choose the default shoes of Melody, the first quest will be completed.
