Last update: 21 September 2018
The following page contains the walkthrough of the main quest titled Elven Wiles in The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep. In this mission, you will learn another song. Thanks to this walkthrough, you will be able to defeat all of the enemies with ease.
Find The Green Lady
After killing Tavish's tormentor, leave his house. Your goal is to find The Green Lady. After getting out of the house, head right, you will see a chest there. Directly ahead of Tavish's house you will find a thin wall that you can destroy with the help of the Gaufain's Hammer song.
When you accomplish this, you will spot The Green Lady right in front of you. Talk to her, and she will join your party. She is a Practitioner. She will teach you a new song called Jarnel's Eyes. When you continue going straight, you will stumble onto a group of suspicious townsfolk.
Play the newly learned song in front of them to begin the fight. You will fight four Practitioners who claim to be ordinary bandits. Only when you deal damage to them will they reveal their true class. This is a similar type of opponent to Tavish's tormentor. When the opponents start to concentrate, use the skill of your newest party member. Her second skill deals four mental damage and allows you to interrupt the powerful attacks of your opponents. The first skill of your Fighter has the same effect. Follow the trail of the kidnappers. Go straight ahead, then after you pass the market, go down the stairs and find another staircase - take the stairs down again.
In order to open the doors that you will find along your way, the gears should be arranged as shown in the following picture:
Once again, you will encounter suspicious townsfolk. Play Jarnel's Eyes right in front of them.
Try to deal with the townsfolk individually. However, if you hit every villager at least once and have caltrops, your Rogue can use quite effective area of effect skills. They cover a 3x2 field nearest to the Rogue. At the beginning, they deal two points of damage, but when an opponent moves through the caltrops which are lying on the ground, he will receive 6 points of damage and will be immobilized. Remember that when a villager turns into a Practitioner, he deals more damage.
The first two skills of your allied Practitioner are abilities that do not rely on any percentage chances, they only require Spell Points. After winning the skirmish, take a look behind you. There will be a barrel there. Before you follow the point on the minimap, look around to the right, and you will find a chest there. Behind the checkpoint, there is a totem where you can save the game, around it you will find a few herbs. If you backtrack a bit, you will find three barrels and chests. There will also be a hatch which, at this moment, will be blocked.
Defeat the enemies
Enter The Green Lady's home.
You will find a group of opponents there. Make the first move. The fight consists out of two waves. In the first, you will fight against a single foe - an armoured elf with 33 health points. In the second wave, you will face two such enemies. Watch out for their duelling stance. It makes it possible for them to attack you even though it is not their turn. Try to interrupt this stance using the skills of your Practitioner and Fighter.
After defeating them, pick up the mysterious letter, which is located on the left side of the house.
There is a key right in front of the first cage. Free the prisoners. The mission has been completed.
