Practitioner | Character classes in The Bard's Tale 4 The Bard's Tale 4 Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 08 October 2018
The following chapter contains all the information you need to play as a Practitioner in Bard's Tale IV. Here you will find information on the starting parameters of the class, roles that suit the class the best, as well as advice on the development of this character class.
General information
This character class specializes in magic. Thanks to this, it has access to a wide array of different spells operating at a long range. At the same time, this is a class with the lowest health pool in the game. This makes it a great support character class, but not suitable for combat on the front line. Among the races, Elves are the best suited for the role of the Practitioner.
Starting parameters and abilities
The Practitioner has the following starting parameters:
- Constitution: 7
- Armor Class: 0
- Strength: 7
- Spell Points: 2
- Intelligence: 4
The starting abilities of this class are as follows:
Icon | Type of ability | Name | Function |
Active | Arcane Barrage | It will allow you to shoot a magic missile towards an enemy on the battlefield. The power of the ability equals 50% of the character's Strength.
Active | Charged Bold | Deals damage to all enemies. |
Additionally, you can choose three of the below listed abilities:
Icon | Type of ability | Name | Function |

Passive | Soul Leech | Each spell cast gives a 20% chance to regain 1 Spell Point.
Passive | Mana Robes: Novice | Allows you to use clothes like the Apprentice Robes.

Tips
- The Practitioner, as a support character class, should be protected. It should always be placed behind a Fighter - as shown in the below screenshot - who, due to his high durability, will be able to withstand damage. This, however, does not apply to the damage inflicted by archers, who can attack any field.
- Characters of this class should not be in standing in the front, as they will be more vulnerable to attacks. The exception to this rule is the necessity to make an attack, which requires the character to be standing in the front, like the Sinking Assault. Once the attack is over, withdraw the character to the back as quickly as possible.
- Characters of this class have Spell Points at their disposal. Those are independent of the action points. Therefore, even after using up all of the action points, you will still be able to use Spell Points. Those, however, are not unlimited. Each Practitioner can have a certain amount of Spell Points. It depends on the character level, race, as well as the inventory. Each completed turn restores 1 Spell Point. Additional points can be regained by using the Meditate ability.
- Practitioners have access to abilities capable of dealing significant damage. You, however, should not have too many Practitioners in the team. Their low durability can weaken the team to such an extent that the benefits of their attacks will be negligible. This is why you should always aim to have up to 1/3 of the party members of this class.
- You should never choose Fichti - Human race for this class. The ability to absorb fatal damage of your companions in case of a character class with such low durability might not save you from losing a team member, only changing the character who will be killed.
