Gears are one of the puzzles available in The Bard's Tale IV. The majority of them are encountered at the beginning of the game.

Tips

Move a gear in a line by clicking on it with LMB. A gear stops when it hits another one or when it reaches the end of the line.

There are a few types of gears:

Appearance	Gear	Usage
	Activation	This gear can rotate and move other gears when they make contact with it.
	Trap	Trap gears are constantly on a move. They activate traps. To stop a trap you have to jam a trap gear.
	Normal	This gear has a diamond-shaped rune. It doesn't turn. It can't activate a gear by itself.
	Drive	This gear sets others in motion. Has a rune that depicts Ouroboros.
	Connected	Two gears connected with a bar. The one on the left is static, the gear on the right moves in a circle.

Bad reputation

The first gears puzzle appears during Bad reputation main quest. This one is very simple. Push one gear to solve it.

The Best of Us

This quest is full of challenging gears puzzles. Some of them open doors while others stop traps. There are a few tricky ones, too.

Gears that stop the first few traps should be placed like this:

This configuration stops the traps on the bottom.

This configuration stops the traps on the top.

The gear you come across after encountering goblins should be placed like this:

Push every gear starting with the one on the right and ending with the one on the left.
