Is Star Wars Outlaws an open world game? From the guide you will find out if there is a fully open world, what are the main ideas of exploration, if you can fly around the galaxy and how the game can limit exploration.

Star Wars Outlaws, similarly to other Ubisoft games, encourages exploration. You may be wondering - is it a completely open world? On this page of the guide we've explained how does traveling around the open locations work, is there a galaxy map and are there any restrictions preventing you from immediately exploring the entire world.
Exploring the planets
- Star Wars Outlaws doesn't feature a single massive inter-connected map. Instead there are several slightly smaller maps - each planet and moon have their own map with varying degrees of openness. The main places to explore in the game are Toshara, Kijimi, Tatooine and Akiva.
- Most planets allow you to explore their surface. Your main means of travel is the speeder, which serves like a mount. The maps vary in size, but usually going from one end of the map to the other takes a few minutes and a few kilometers of travel.
- There are also cities and settlements on the planets - each with a separate smaller map. Exploring will let you find quest givers, traders, mini-games and treasure. In such places you cannot use the speeder.
We encourage you to check out our interactive maps of the planets available in Star Wars Outlaws. The useful markers contained on them will help you find the most interesting secrets on each planet.
Flying around the galaxy
- The game does not allow you to travel freely throughout the galaxy - exploration is severely restricted. At first Toshara is the only area available, with the other planets joining in after you fix the hyperdrive. Reaching other planets works like fast travel, so you won't be exploring the space between them.
- Each planet/moon has its own orbit with possible additional treasures and places to explore. You must eventually approach the planet and start the landing procedure - it takes about 30-45 seconds and is fully automatic. You cannot pilot the ship during landing and the game will take you to the chosen landing site on its own.
Exploration restrictions
- Some maps have specified borders - instead of a bottomless pit you'll reach a notification about needing to return to the play area. Unfortunately you can't traverse large spaces without restrictions.
- You may encounter a similar message in certain missions - the game blocks exploration during major quests, requiring you to stay within the quest area.
- The game may limit exploration by using high rocks that cannot be climbed or various terrain obstacles such as ivy or dense vegetation.
You can return to some blocked locations after obtaining upgrades for your gear. The two main types of obstacles you can deal with are:
- Boulders and weakened walls - You must have the appropriate blaster module, we have described it on the How to destroy a cracked wall? page.
- Grates you can cut - You must have the appropriate gadget, discussed on the How to get the Fusioncutter? page.
