Star Wars Outlaws Review - A Successful Rogue Adventure, Although Not Without Its Flaws
Star Wars Outlaws is in many ways a typical Ubisoft game, but one that is done – at least in my opinion – better than the developer's other titles.

Star Wars: Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws is in many ways a typical Ubisoft game, but one that is done – at least in my opinion – better than the developer's other titles.
The main pros of the game
- Visuals and Atmosphere: The game effectively captures the Star Wars aesthetic with impressive graphics, immersive environments, and a strong sense of exploration. Many players praised the attention to detail in the world-building and the overall artistic design.
- Story and Characters: The narrative, while sometimes predictable, is engaging and features well-developed characters, particularly the protagonist Kay Vess and her companion Nix. Players enjoyed the character interactions and the storyline's connection to the Star Wars universe.
- Gameplay Variety: The game offers a mix of stealth, action, and exploration, allowing players to approach situations in different ways. The inclusion of mini-games, such as Sabacc and lockpicking mechanics, adds depth to the gameplay.
- Accessibility Features: The game has been noted for its comprehensive accessibility options, making it more inclusive for a wider audience.
The main cons of the game
- Bugs and Technical Issues: Many users reported frequent crashes, glitches, and performance issues, particularly at launch. While some improvements have been made, players still experienced bugs that affected gameplay.
- AI and Gameplay Mechanics: The AI for enemies was criticized for being unresponsive and lacking depth, which detracted from the stealth gameplay. Additionally, the combat mechanics were described as basic and sometimes frustrating.
- Repetitiveness: Some players felt that the gameplay became monotonous over time, with similar missions and tasks repeating throughout the game. The open-world design was also seen as lacking substantial content, leading to a sense of linearity despite the open-world claim.
- Price Point: Several reviews mentioned that the game's price felt too high for the overall experience, suggesting that it should be purchased at a discount.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Character Customization: Players expressed a desire for more options to customize the protagonist and her gear, as the existing options were seen as limited.
- Improved Stealth Mechanics: While stealth is a core element, many users felt that it was poorly implemented compared to other games in the genre, leading to a desire for more refined mechanics and AI behavior.
- Meaningful Reputation System: The faction reputation mechanics were criticized for being simplistic and lacking depth, with players wanting a more meaningful impact on gameplay choices and outcomes.
- Fast Travel Points: Users noted a lack of fast travel options, which made navigating the open world tedious at times.
Summary
- Overall, Star Wars Outlaws presents a mixed reception, with many players enjoying the Star Wars experience and atmosphere but feeling let down by technical issues and gameplay mechanics.

Star Wars: Outlaws Description
Star Wars: Outlaws is an open-world action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. The game was developed by Ubisoft Massive studio and is one of the first projects under the Star Wars license from 2013, not published by Electronic Arts.
Main characters and story in SW Outlaws
The action of Star Wars: Outlaws is set between the events shown in the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, being the fifth and sixth part of the cinematic saga. The creators picked this period in the history of the Star Wars universe, as it was a moment of true flourishing of the underworld. The Rebellion had not yet managed to consolidate its position, and under the nose of the powerful Empire, criminal syndicates arose, led by Pyke and the Hutts, who managed perfectly to exploit the weaknesses of the system.
The main character is a smuggler named Kay Vess (played by Humberly Gonzalez). We can follow her transformation from an inexperienced girl into a woman respected by the entire criminal underworld. Thanks to her skills, the protagonist quickly becomes one of the key characters of the underground and she is forced to work with various factions. During the adventures that throw her into various corners of a distant galaxy, she has her faithful friends to rely on - a furry Nix and a rebellious droid ND-5.
Gameplay
In Star Wars: Outlaws we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The driving force of the game are quests pushing the plot forward, accompanied by various side missions and activities. While completing them, from time to time we have to make decisions which may have various consequences for the heroine and her companions. The missions in the game include infiltrating secret locations and stealing valuable items from them, which can fetch a fortune on the black market.
In their implementation, we are often hindered by opponents with whom we engage in dynamic battles, using mainly the blaster. The weapon has different modules and firing modes. Since adversaries usually have a numerical advantage over us, it is often better to act stealthy rather than have a frontal attack. It will allow us to eliminate enemies by surprise. The presence of Nix also encourages a more tactical approach to problem solving. Our animal companion can distract enemies, sabotage alarms or fetch weapons.
We can explore open maps on individual planets on foot or using a fast and agile speeder. In addition, the game allows us to control the heroine's spaceship – the Trailblazer. Sitting at its helm, we traverse interplanetary space, where we also engage in dynamic skirmishes. Our ship can also jump into hyperspace and it's used to cover vast distances in a fraction of a second.
Planets
Star Wars: Outlaws features a vast world with a variety of planets, including:
- Akiva,
- Kijimi,
- Tatooine,
- Toshara.
The surface maps offer both wastelands stretching to the horizon, as well as densely populated cities. Settlements in the game feature shops or canteens full of shady characters and opportunities to earn money.
Star Wars: Outlaws editions
The game is offered in three versions:
- Standard;
- Gold Edition - with a season pass and 3-day early access;
- Ultimate Edition - with a season pass, "Sabacc Shark" and "Rogue Infiltrator" sets, a digital artbook, and 3-day early access.
Engine
Star Wars: Outlaws is powered by Massive Entertainment's proprietary Snowdrop technology.

Star Wars Outlaws Is a Decent Game, but It's Missing Something
I had the opportunity to spend an hour with Ubisoft's first open-world Star Wars game. While I can't say that it's a bad game, I get the impression that it has too little for such a prominent franchise.
