Prologue - Corson V

This page of the Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart game guide describes the pursuit of Dr. Nefarious that occurs as part of the prologue on Corson V. Pursue Dr. Nefarious .

The pursuit of Nefarious will begin right after the first cutscene with him. Its initial part takes place on rails. You have to jump onto adjacent rails to avoid contact with discharges and colliding with indestructible obstacles.

After a short cut-scene, deal with the thugs and reach the place with the red button. You have to jump and perform a melee attack - as a reminder, you have to press square during the jump. After another cutscene, you will arrive at a station with many friendly NPCs.

Buy weapon from Mrs. Zurkon

Mrs. Zurkon is the only vendor in the game. She will appear on every planet visited in the game and often in more than one place. During the first meeting, Mrs. Zurkon has two new weapons to offer. These are:

1. Shatterbombfor 1250 bolts (local currency - you can get bolts mainly from the chests destroyed along the way) - It is a variation of frag grenades. You can throw them right away or plan (by pressing R2 halfway) where to throw them.
2. Enforcer for 1250 bolts - This is a type of a shotgun. It can fire single bullets (hold R2 halfway down) or act like a double-barreled shotgun (press R2 all the way down).

It is very likely that you will have enough bolts to purchase just one of the weapons offered. Each of these can be helpful in subsequent battles. After you collect at least 1250 bolts by exploring this new location again, you can return to Mrs. Zurkon and purchase the second weapon.

Once both weapons are purchased, there will also be an option to buy ammunition. We don't recommend spending bolts on ammunition, as you can always find it in the crates. If you run out of ammunition for the weapon you are currently using, simply switch to another weapon while waiting for your ammunition supply to renew.

Find Dr. Nefarious .

Shortly after you make your first purchase, an enemy landing craft will appear in the area, and a group of opponents will get out of it. You have to defeat them. Look for opportunities to hit the red boxes/barrels when enemies are near them. This will make it easier for you to eliminate enemies. Secure this entire area before you move on.

When attempting to walk across the bridge, you will see the cutscene featuring the arrival of Dr. Nefarious. This is the first time you have to use the Rift Tether. It is the ability to interact with rifts (space-time "holes"). This action only becomes possible if you are facing the rift and if it has changed its color from blue to yellow . Press L1. You will pull yourself towards the rift. You can use it to get to otherwise inaccessible places or to escape from enemies.

First, get rid of new enemies. Before continuing along the station, explore the first optional area on the right, visible in the screenshot. By pulling yourself to the rift you will reach the place where you first find the Raritanium. These are blue crystals that you must smash (e.g. melee weapons) to acquire them. You will be able to spend them later on buying weapon upgrades.

Return to the main platform and this time investigate the rift to the left, which allows you to resume crossing the station. Get ready for new battles. Remember to keep monsters that want to bite Ratchet at bay.

Inside the station building, the environment will change from time to time and new enemies will arrive from the rifts. Fighting them should not be too difficult.

A riddle with cranes and rifts

The linear route will eventually lead you to a location where you have to solve a puzzle with cranes and rifts. It is not very complicated and only requires some patience. The first crane remains in constant motion. You have to wait until it moves the container close enough to the hero so that you can pull yourself to the first rift on the container.

Stay on the container and wait until you approach a stationary crane with a second container and a second rift on it.

Before you go any further, it is worth turning to the left. At the place shown in the picture, you can pull yourself to the side rift partially covered by the wall. This will allow you to explore the side area where you will find raritanium, among other things.

Return to the second container. Investigate areas with obstacles moving vertically. Wait until they reveal the third crevice shown in the picture. Quickly pull yourself to it to complete the entire puzzle.

Find Dr. Nefarious - continued

You can now continue. First, deal with a new group of enemies. You can also explore the side left room along the way.

Grab the hitch under the cab with L1 to get Ratchet and Clank to a new location.

In the new part of the station you will meet Mrs. Zurkon again, and this is a good opportunity to buy one of the previously mentioned two weapons, if you previously did not have enough bolts.

Expect a larger battle with the Nefarious thugs after entering the neighboring area. For the first time, you can use rifts to help you get to your enemies quickly or to escape from areas heavily attacked by enemies. Use the surrounding objects as cover and look for good opportunities to hit the red boxes. After the battles are over, collect as much ammo and health points as possible from the crates and only then choose the only available passage. It will lead you to the location of the duel with the boss - Doctor Nefarious.

Defeat Dr. Nefarious .

Nefarious' most formidable attack is firing a large laser that initially shoots only in a horizontal line. If you want to avoid getting hurt, you should jump over the laser - you can jump to the sides, as the camera will be focused on the boss. Remember, of course, to double jump, so press X again during the flight.

You can attack Nefarious with any of your weapons, with Multi-shot allowing you to fire from a greater distance. The Enforcer Rifle will only allow you to deal more damage when you get noticeably closer to the boss.

If you get injured, you can find health crates in the arena. Other wooden crates may in turn hide ammunition.

Each time Nefarious takes enough damage, he will move away from the battlefield and call for reinforcements that will arrive from the chasms. Focus on dealing with the new regular opponents. In this case, The Enforcer and Shatterbomb can come in handy to deal area damage.

In the later stages of the battle, Doctor Nefarious will begin using rocket fire. In this case, a proven tactic is to run sideways. At the same time, pay attention to the red signs appearing on the floor and move away from them as quickly as possible. Interestingly, while dodging boss rocket attacks, you don't have to stop your own firing and can continue to weaken Dr. Nefarious.

Nefarious' other new attack later in the duel will be a large laser beam following Ratchet. Depending on where you were when the boss activated this attack, it is safest to run continuously left or right. The game allows you to jump over the laser beam, but it can turn immediately in the opposite direction, and it's easy to take damage this way.

You will not be able to ultimately defeat Nefarious as early as the game's prologue. After the boss loses his health bar, an important new cutscene will be triggered, ending this confrontation.

The scenes of jumping between dimensions are not interactive. The only exception to this is a brief stay on a pirate ship, during which it's a good idea to quickly fire up the red crates. Eventually, you will move to a new large location - the metropolis of Nefarious City.
