Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart: Means of Transport Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart guide, walkthrough
Last update: 23 June 2021
This page of the Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart game guide explains what modes of transportation are available in the game. You will also learn about other ways to speed up travel on planet surfaces.
In Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, the vast majority of the time you must travel on foot and explore without the use of transportation.
There are two main exceptions to this rule. The first is the Speetles- these are creatures similar in appearance to snails, although unlike snails they are able to move very quickly.
You will first encounter the Speetles on planet Sargasso, but they also appear in select locations later in the game. Depending on the situation, you may be able to jump on a Speetle right away and start riding on it, or it may be necessary to find a Speetle nest - hitting the nest will drive at least one creature out of it.
While on the Speetle, you can travel on water, destroy crates and hit small enemies while mounted, but larger collisions can make you fall off the Speetle and should be avoided if you are not allowed to swim in the area. There is also an accelerator that works best when combined with launching from ramps.
The second unique mode of transportation is Trudi, a friendly, flying monster. For more details on how to unlock Trudi and her abilities, check out the Return to Sargasso - Trudi and Trudi - How to Spit Fire pages. In short, you must return to Sargasso later in the campaign and complete the side quest requiring you to feed Trudi zurpstones found in various places on the planet.
- Once you collect 30 of the 60 zurpstones for Trudi, you will unlock the option to fly on her back. This can make it significantly easier for you to reach 100% completion on Sargasso. Unfortunately, you can only land in designated areas and cannot take Trudi with you to other planets.
- Once you collect 45 of the 60 zurpstones, you will unlock the ability to spit fireballs. This can be helpful for attacking enemies and for collecting the remaining 15 zurpstones, which are hard to reach.
Our characters use a spaceship to travel between all the major planets from the campaign and you'll get access to it for the first time once you deal with the big boss on planet Sargasso.
You can select planets from a list of currently available and discovered planets. Each journey is free of charge and you can easily return to previously visited planets, e.g. to do side quests or find secret collectibles you missed.
The Hoverboots are an alternative to the standard means of transport which you will unlock shortly after arriving on planet Savali for the first time.
You will be able to travel much faster using the Hoverboots when compared to regular running. Furthermore, you can accelerate even faster by pressing the L2 and R2 triggers and hovering over the arrow platforms. Using Hoverboots allows you to travel faster between destinations and, once unlocked, they become available on all other planets, including Nefarious City and Sargasso.
In some places, the Hoverboots can help you complete a puzzle or reach a secret. We've compiled all these circumstances in the game's walkthrough and in the chapter on collectibles.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart also features a fast travel mechanic - for details on how it works, check out the Fast travel - is it there? page.
