How many weapon types are there in Monster Hunter World?
- There are 14 different weapons in the Monster Hunter World. Each one of them functions differently, which was described in the specific chapters of this guide. The weapons can be divided in the following categories: Technical Weapons - Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Hunting Horn, Bow. Heavy Weapons - Great Sword, Hammer, Lance, Gunlance, Heavy Bowgun. Light Weapons - Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Long Sword, Light Bowgun.
Does the game feature an open world?
- No. There are numerous single, large missions and hubs in the game. Elements of open world can be found mainly during the hunts - you end up on a large map and it's your call how to approach the monster or where you will round up the monsters during the hunts.
Can you hunt for underwater monsters and fight them?
- The developers got rid of underwater combat mechanics in the latest installment of the game. Only land beasts await you in Monster Hunter World.
How does the multiplayer work? / Can I play solo?
- While choosing hunts in the hub, you can create a lobby and wait for other players to join you (or invite friends) to embark on a hunt together. It's worth mentioning that the game supports Voice Chat and has a large amount of gestures / emotes to choose from. It's also possible to join an online session (created by someone else) or to play solo. During a solo hunt, you can fire a special flare to "unlock" the access for other players. This is helpful when, for instance, the difficulty of the specific hunt is too high for you and you need assistance. Nothing, however, prevents you from completing hunts and assignments on your own.
Does Monster Hunter World have a Story mode?
- Yes. The developers have announced a campaign that will be associated with subsequent hunts. You get to the newly discovered continent and your job is to uncover the secrets of this place. However, repeating hunts, creating new weapons / armors and developing the abilities of your character remains the main aspect of the game. It's very likely that the Story mode will be an extensive introduction that will prepare the players for further online gameplay.
I haven t played any earlier installment. Does it matter?
- Absolutely not. Monster Hunter World skillfully develops the ideas from previous installments of the franchise. The developers also made sure that this part was as friendly to new players as possible. Many mechanics are easier to understand and it's generally easier to jump into the game, be it alone or in the company of other players.
How does the progression system work in Monster Hunter World?
- The main purpose of the game is to hunt more and more powerful beasts. Hunting monsters allows the player to acquire rewards and crafting materials. Those can be sued to create more powerful weapons and armors. The equipment of the character is the indicator of how much the player achieved in the game. It is worth noting, however, that player's skills were always the most important in the Monster Hunter series - even the best equipment won't win you the battle with stronger monsters.
