Last update: 07 January 2018
Here you can find tips for Great Sword, weapon in Monster Hunter World:
Weapon characteristic
- The Great Sword is a highly unwieldy weapon - equipping it causes the character to move extremely slow. Additionally, attacks are sluggish and require some precision. However, if you happen to land a hit, you will deal colossal damage.
- Charged attacks deal huge damage and will, in most cases, knock back the enemy. Each charged attack has three stages of power, depending on the time used to charge it. The first level - almost immediately after pressing the button, the character will glow red. Second charge level - your character will flash red again. Third charge level - the character, as well as the weapon, will flash red again. You must perform the attack at the specific moment (the weapon must glow red when it hits the enemy). This will allow you to deal the highest possible damage.
- The Great Sword allows you to quite effectively block enemy attacks, although it quickly depletes the Sharpness parameter of the weapon. You should block as last resort and focus on dodging attacks instead.
- When charging attacks, you can perform Tackle, allowing the character to perform a forward charge. This allows you to dodge an attack, expand the combo or knock the enemy back.
Who is this weapon for?
- Even though at first glance this weapon seems to be trivial to use in combat, it requires a lot of practice. It's easy to miss subsequent attacks or use the charged attacks ineffectively. Additionally, this is a highly unwieldy weapon and makes avoiding enemy attacks quite difficult.
- If you prefer melee combat and slow but powerful attacks, this is definitely a weapon for you. However, if you want to be effective in combat and use the weapon's potential to its fullest, you need patience and master of available combos.
- Proper positioning is key when using this weapon. You must be stationary, charging attacks and perform your strikes just before the enemy does to knock it down.
- It's a good idea to perform charged attacks when the enemy is stunned, trapped and so on - you will be certain that your attack hits its target and deals huge damage.
Summary: A weapon good for novice players, as even regular sword swings will deal impressive damage. If, however, you want to master this weapon, you must be ready for some practice.
Useful combos
1. True Charged Slash is a powerful attack, but it requires time to perform it. It's best to use it against an enemy that was stunned or trapped.
2. Wide Slashes are good openers that decrease the distance to the enemy or knock it back.
3. As most of the combat with the Great Sword is done from a stationary position, you should master this combo to hold your ground and, for instance, stop the enemy charge.
