Safely jumping off and falling into a pit - main differences

One of the most important factors is distinguishing safe jumps and the ones that will lead to your death - Halo Infinite: Falling into pits - how to avoid? - FAQ - Halo Infinite Guide

One of the most important factors is distinguishing safe jumps and the ones that will lead to your death.

If you can see the ground beneath you, this means a jump is safe. This also applies to drops from high altitudes, such as a cliff edge or the top of an elevator shaft (example pictured above). This is due to Master Chief's armor protecting you from fall damage.

The jump is dangerous if you don't see the ground in the pit below you, or if you'd end up drifting into the outer space after missing the jump - Halo Infinite: Falling into pits - how to avoid? - FAQ - Halo Infinite Guide

The jump is dangerous if you don't see the ground in the pit below you, or if you'd end up drifting into the outer space after missing the jump. In both cases, failure will result in Master Chief's death.

Jumping and using the grappleshot

You can use the grappleshot to safely avoid pits - Halo Infinite: Falling into pits - how to avoid? - FAQ - Halo Infinite Guide

You can use the grappleshot to safely avoid pits. This gadget is available from the very beginning of the campaign - it fires a grappling hook which can attach to walls, floors, ceilings or ledges. You must remember that the grappleshot's range is limited. Don't try to jump over a chasm if you're not sure you can safely grapple to the ledge on the other side. Always aim the grapple carefully, so that you don't immediately fall off the new platform after grappling to it.

Halo Infinite also allows you to jump. Unfortunately you can't jump far, so they'll mostly serve as some extra help for the grappleshot.

When traveling through locations filled with pits you should pay attention to the ground, especially if you have to fight in them. Don't get close to the platforms' edges and prioritise crossing chasms over attacking enemies.
