Introduction | Bitterblack Isle - Dark Arisen DLC Dragon's Dogma Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Dark Arisen focuses on a new and extensive location called Biterblack Isle. You shouldn't take up this adventure unless you reached level 40, especially that in certain moments even that can be not enough. Just like in case of Gransys, we will encounter the so-called Post-Game state; however, it is associated with slaying the main boss which goes by the name of Daimon. This mode will affect deployment of the existing bosses, arrival of new ones and it will modify the general level of the location (enemies and items).
In order to get to Bitterblack Isle, go to a harbor in Cassardis, where a woman with a lantern will be standing on the pier at night. Talk to her and she will take you to the island. When you get there, you can rest at a bench, find side quests on a notice board and talk to a woman innkeeper who can take you back to Cassardis. You will also find a portal, and thus you can always go back to a safer location via Liftstone - it is a local variation of a Ferrystone which can be used to teleport. This time you will teleport yourself to the entrance of the labyrinth.
Exploring
You will explore closed areas - dungeons and caves. Most enemies are modified variations of well-known creatures (wolves, goblins). Although, they are slightly stronger, they are characterized by the same behavior. On the other hand, bosses are different from one another and require an individual approach (chapter concerning the Bestiary). Furthermore, items that you come across are also new and often very valuable. Enchanted items can be disenchanted at your starting point by a women called Olra.
If you want to make a lot of gold, you can search every chest or barrel that you come across. You will usually find weapons or pieces of armor which is quite a change. Apart from that, it is good to have a light and agile character who can use double jump (e.g. Assassin). On top of that, you will encounter many hideouts and hidden passages that are very hard to get to, and can only be reached by agile characters.
Upgrading your inventory
A new set of upgrades is also available. The first person that you encounter, Barroch, can upgrade your items by two levels. However, you will have to meet three conditions first: an item needs to be upgraded to its limit (IV level, Dragonwyrm), you need certain components (different for various items) and you need to spend Rift Crystals, an additional currency used by Pawns (common across Bitterblack Isle).
Enchanted items
From time to time, you will find special items, which are enchanted, called Bitterblack+type of item+level. They are kept in the "Other" section of your inventory and they often weigh a lot. You only receive information concerning their type (weapon/armor/material) and level - level defines the value of a given item. Each item can be found in specific places (especially in hard to get to chests or by following the storyline), but they are not something that you would consider rare. To identify such items, you need to bring them to Olra. She will not charge you and you will receive a list of obtained items. Weapons won't the better than the expensive ones that you can get from a merchant, and rings will be the most commonly found pieces of armor.
