Day and night | Basic information Dragon's Dogma Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
IN the game, there is the day and nigh system present. The cycle is key, especially to some of the quests that have their deadline, as well as to some of actions (e.g. creating duplicates at the Black Cat). Also, some quests can be completed only at a specific time of the day, or the night. Of course, daylight is a safer time and only then should you travel, at the beginning of the game. When it gets late, you will see the Sun slowly set and also your pawns will notify you that the night is drawing in. It is best to spend the night in the inn and pay for a place to sleep. Also, you can enter a cave, where the time of the day does not matter that much, or complete quests in the city.
Of course, you can also travel at night. This is the only time of the day during which you can find some valuable materials - herbs and glowing stones. However, during nighttime, new monsters wake up and it is not uncommon to encounter skeletons or zombies, out of nowhere. Often, you can also encounter phantoms then (especially in forests).
Lantern
The basic item for exploration of caves and at night is the lantern. You can easily buy it in nearly every shop, and sometimes even find one in the game world. It provides light for several days. The light it produces does not increase the risk of being spotted by the enemy. As soon as you find another that the lantern's light is getting weaker, you need to be prepared to replenish oil. You can buy oil from merchants, find it in the game world or have empty flasks on you, which you can fill with oil from pitchers in nearly every cave (often at the entrance). To replenish oil, select the lantern from the inventory and access the crafting menu, by pressing "Combine". On the crafting screen, select the oil flask for the lantern to be filled with oil.
